How do I know if my SSD (Samsung 840 EVO) is aligned (correctly) and if not how can I align it, when I am already using it, without having to reinstall windows

That makes no sense lol

SSDs are not mechanical, its flash memory, they dont need to be aligned because they can access the first bit of data as fast as they can the last and they can switch between so fast you dont notice.

So the same way you dont defrag a SSD you dont need to align them.

As long as you not still using XP you no longer have to worry about this sort of thing.

My advise install Win7Sp1 or newer and you'll be as compatible as currently possible. And yes that means the install disc having sp1 not 7 then going to sp1.

True, that operation is called TRIM, and is a lot different to Defrag.

Then your using the partition of the other drive you cloned it from so who knows. Just another reason to take time to do a clean install...

Either way I wouldn't be worried too much unless its XP since anything newer is at least somewhat sad aware. Like I said this really hasn't Ben a problem for a long time. All of those sad tweaking guides are useless now. The only thing you need to know is before clean installing do a secure erase if the drive had data on it.

You don't have to buy windows again. Why do people think this? You have the product key right? Well use it. Just dont have it activated on my than on PC at a time otherwise you could run into some issues.
