It just happened recently my pc keeps on turning off when I play any games from battlefield 4 to GTA IV. However, when I run prime95 it passed (had it running for 72 hours) max temp was 85c @ 4.1ghz with a vcore of 1.300. So I tied running it at stock, again passed prime95,it turns off in game. I have replaced the thermal compound twice now, same story. Is it because of my RAM, I haven't touch it at all left everything at stock. Is it because of my motherboard? Please help it is getting really annoying now that I can't even use my computer.

Try using a different graphics card if you can. My old card was doing the exact same thing. One day whenever I played intensive games my PC just shut off. I removed the graphics card and it worked just fine. It may be different for you but it's something you could try.

Thanks, I'll try my old 9400 gt and see how it goes. I thought that if it was graphic card related the screen would go black, not the whole entire PC shutting down.

Does the computer just shut down unexpectedly? Is there any kind of BSOD at all, or does it just randomly turn off?

My old computer used to shut itself off too due to a degrading PSU. Try to put a load on both the CPU and the GPU for about half an hour and see if anything happens from that.

PSU might be at fault here.

Either its dying or some cables are loose.

Try re-plugging all the Cables.

My PC shuts off without BSOD. And how is the PSU at fault when I have the thing for a year now. If the PSU is 3+ years old than I get it. Well, now I have to find another PSU to test it out.

Thanks for the input.

Also this may help you guys to determine if my PSU is at fault. According to speedfan my voltage read out are:

Vcore: 1.27v

+12v: 11.35v

AVcc: 3.26v

+3.3V: 3.23V

+5V: 5.05V

+12V: 12.08V

I have a similar problem where my pc shuts off randomly, even when not under heavy load. The strange thing is that my pc's background changes to black after my pc turned itself off again. I know it's not overheating or anything and I really don't know what could cause it.

Specs

AMD FX-4100

gigabyte GA-970A-UD3

GeForce GTX 550 Ti

699GB Seagate

8GB Kingston

Don't know what type but my PSU is a Cooler master with 550 Watts
