When and if I go RAID zero is it better to go Intel 730 or could I go Samsung EVO or Crucial MX100?

 

 

Basically are the other choices besides Intel still stable/reliable in RAID 0

I have been using 2 Samsung Evo 840 in Raid0 now for quite a while (since Oct 2013) and had never any issues. I think in terms of reliability you can't go wrong with either Samsung or Intel.

 

I mean yes there is always a chance that something goes wrong in a Raid0 setup... but I would never olny run a Raid0 without an additional HDD or SSD as storage device.

 

Only thing I can tell you I love it! The performance is insane and for me absolutely worth the money.

Putting SSD's in RAID 0 is rather useless unless you're constantly moving huge files around.

No it isnt.

 

The speed increase is very noticeable comapred to just a single SSD.

 

I have 2 Samsung Evos in RAID0 and get 1GB/s read and writes. Boot times are much quicker, and programs open noticeably faster.

Funny, because I recently read a review on multiple different SSD's put into RAID0, and it showed that the boot times were slower, programs opened up slower (about the same in real world use but benched slower), the only thing they were better at was writes. In day to day performance it was negligible.

I personally have a Crucial M4, and love it...plus Crucial has great customer service, and actually seems to give a shit...So, my vote will always be mx100.

Yeah. £100 is such a huge "investment" that I would be completely devastated if it wasnt faster than a single SSD.

The world according to consumer product manufacture Samsung, yea that sounds like performance to me. The Samsung's are made for single drive world, there are so many better options for RAID SSD's than Samsung but good old Linus hasn't given the anointing word to the masses won't budge. Meanwhile those who have ventured off the Samsung Kool Aid are reaping the benefits.

 

Hell even Linus has a RAID 0 (8 x 120 GB) setup, basically trolling the anti RAID trolls. Psst. No Samsung drive in the array.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.
