Ugh dust...

Go to solution Solved by ShadowCaptain,

If you want to eliminate dust, make sure every intake and exhaust is filtered

and try to have positive air pressure (more air going in than out) this stops dust being able to get into the case as the pressure will be constantly pushing it out

Also try get some anti static cleaner and use it on the plexi, and parts of the case where dust forms including outside this can keep it quite clean

So I finally installed some LED lights in my Bitfenix Shinobi Windowed. Of course without lights inside it's pretty hard to see the dust. But even now after cleaning the side window, after 2 hours I can already see some noticeable dust collection on the window. Is a dust-free (and I mean 0% dust) case ever achievable? Or am I just going to have to live with this.

0% is not achievable in a normale case, if you have a mineral oil pc then you won't have dust issues.

Yeah I'm already doing positive pressure. I had no idea such a thing existed (that anti static cleaner). Thanks for the advice :)

If you have good positive air pressure, you don't really need dust filters, these will just restrict airflow.

You only need dust filters if you have neutral or negative air pressure

JayzTwoCents did a video on cooling and mentioned this.

(I think its this one, but I'm in college at the moment so cant watch it to make sure :/)

Agreed but when you turn your PC off, and there is no airflow the static inside just sucks dust in through the fan slots so a filter stop dust getting in when the PC is off, something often overlooked

But would you rather get higher temps and restrict airflow, or get lower temps and just have to clean a small amount of dust out every so  often.

You have to weigh up the pros and cons.

Yes, very true, it should not be done at the expense of cooling performance, but if you are getting very low temps it wont hurt to protect against dust and particles

My server has very restricted airflow but it is like 30 degrees 90% of the time so it dos not matter, where my gaming machine is more like 50 at load so I keep it alot more open

My 300r has vents in the plexi designed to mount a fan, but I figured leaving it open would allow the GPU to expell warm air out the side of the case, but because its so open it just pulls in dust, but my room isnt dusty and in like 2 months there are just a few specks on the window, will probably leave it this way for cooling
