I recently got an EVGA 780 FTW, and whenever I change the Power Management mode from Adaptive to prefer maximum performance it never saves. (and yes, I'm making sure to click apply before exiting)

There should be no need to change power settings for a desktop GPU.

have you look at your computer power management settings in the control panel?

 

it called 'Power Options'

 

create a custom power plan and set everything to high or max

Ah, I was unaware of that.

There is still no need to change it for a PC. All maximum performance option will do will force your GPU to crank itself up to the max possible clock setting, regardless of the game needs that much GPU power or not. It's like forcing your CPU to run at it's peak overclock at all times.

Yeah, I wouldn't set maximum performance under global settings. For game by game tuning I would.

Gotcha. Was perusing the settings when I got the card and I was annoyed when it wouldn't change. Good to know there's no need to change it.
