Graphics card position

I wasn't entirely sure where to post this so I'm just going to post it here in the hope that it's right.

 

So I'm not sure if my graphics card is positioned correctly within the case. It seems to bend downwards and looks awkward, and is probably also placing tension on the PCI-E connector, but I'm not an expert so I wouldn't know. I don't know if I've got it plugged in the wrong slot or if it's too big for the motherboard or what's going on here, any thoughts?

P.S. Should I have the graphics card up the top with the sound card? I've tried that but the card is still bending in that slot.

Sometimes the darn slot lock that holds the card in place doesn't click.  Try reseating it.  Also did you use a screw to secure it to the case? Also make sure it is in the 16x pci-e slot.  Check the mobo as it is usually marked or look in your mobo's installation manual/guide.

is that a 7970 windforce? and anyway i have a windforce card and it bends aswell, most cards do this but its not commonly considered an issue. as for positioning i think its okay

This is common, you can try and support the far end of the card with something/reduce tension on the cables by supporting their weight.

 

Leaving it as is won't cause damage, and yes the card is in the correct slot.

also, single gfx cards systems should always have the card in the slot closest to the cpu

it is aligned correctly with the PCIe slot, but is too heavy on th other end, so what you need to do is see if you can get a back plat e for it or just switch to a test bench (lay your case flat ) or rout your Power cables from the top and try to have them polling it up

The card is seated fine and screwed in, it can be seen that the PCB of the card is flexing and that is causing the lean, windforce cards often do this.

This, or route them so they coil/route to the GPU from the area above the hard drive tray, so they can act as a prop by bracing the PCIE sockets against the top of the hard drive tray using the cables themselves.

Oh shit, yes you have it correct I failed to notice that he has moved the card down a slot in the image I used.

 

@Nececelery follow the advice of @mrogicom and ignore my picture, the card should be mounted in the top slot as in his picture, if you are worried about it being too close to the soundcard, simply move the soundcard down into any of the other 1x slots.

I couldn't deal with that situation in my system personally, although no matter how rigid the card is, it's still bracing itself using the PCIE slot.

OP you want the card in the 16x pci-e slot so if it has been moved out of that put it back.

That's why MSI's cards are good, they have those unisinks (or whatever you call those)....those really help.....

My suggestion is always a case with a horizontal mobo. Had that twice now, and it just works great. 

Getting a backplate or something similar is just too expensive as an addition....so my suggestion would actually be some horizontal mobo solution.

A variety of responses here, some are saying that it's fine and it's just how Windforce cards are designed, and others are saying it could be an issue.

 

Since I've had it like this for a while now and it seems to be secured I think I'll leave it in the top slot and try and shuffle the wires so it's not AS bent, because buying any new components right now isn't really an option - though I'll look into it for the future.

 

Just so I know, what's the difference between having it in the x16 and the x4?

The bending is normal. You can get a backplate for it which will make it rigid. They cost around $20 to $30

You will need to do some research and see what kind of PCB that card uses, it MIGHT be able to use one of these
