Hey there people,

I want to upgrade my GPU, since it currently is probably one of the weaker links in my build. I've got a budget of €350 to work with, and I can get a 290 with WFX3 for that price. My main thought with this is to get something that has no problem running current games at highest settings at 60FPS, but also run games that come next year and in 2016, basically 2 years, by then I think 4K will be mainstream and more importantly GPU technology will catch up as well. I also want it silent and not too hot so I have some headroom for overclocks. Also I should note that only cards that go well with my current and future color scheme plans are the Windforce and XFX, but I heard bad things about XFX and their DD cooler. So should I go for the Gigabyte card?

My rig: CPU: Intel core i5 4670K MoBo: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 2x4GB 1600mhz CL9 GPU: EVGA GTX780 SC ACX SSD: ADATA Premier Pro SP900 256GBHDD: Western Digital RED 2TB PSU: FSP Aurum CM 750W Case: Cooler Master HAF XM OS: Windows 8 Pro

I don't like the look of that one, I know it fits my current color scheme well, but I've got some pretty major design changes in the roadmap that would make it look bad in my PC.

My 6950 DD from XFX was pretty solid.. I believe that it's currently in my mom's PC, and it still is dead silent and performs well even as she has Civilization V running pretty much 24/7 (not sure why she does that.. Non-techies, lol)..

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

Black and red is too mainstream. I don't have a problem with it, but almost every single gaming motherboard and graphics card has a red and black color scheme. I would like something that pops more, like green, or yellow.

It's the OPs choice though, that's just what I think. MSI cards do look nice.

wight Coolers ?? let me think ....could you afford a HoF GTX 770 it's got a sexy Wight PCB/Cooler/shroud just sexy looking, or get a EVGA GTX 780 Classified SC, neck a neck with the 290 even at high res an got a sexy Grey and black color scheme, so you can add some grey into your mod and have it freaking awesome

Well that 770 costs pretty much the same which is pretty unappealing considering its power compared to the 290 and a 780 Classy is way up in the €500 range. I think the Gigabyte card uses a reference PCB, so I could get a white backplate and if I felt adventurous I could paint the shroud of the cooler white.

Do that, just do it carefully, the painting part ;)  good luck Homy

Thanks, though I wouldn't do it as soon as I'd have the card, I would first buy some new white stuff including the H440 and something like the Sabranco Asus promised to release and some sexy Noiseblocker fans.

I know your probably joking but this whole PowerColor=Absolute best GPU brand is getting old...

Each brand has their pros and cons.

Where do you want to buy?

i would get the sapphire tri-x; if you tweak the fan profile it is the quietest r9 290 you can get i think

Its around 340€ here in germany

a friend of mine has the PCS+; massive metal cooler and backplate; but also decently quiet under load (maybe more if you again tweak the profile; a lot of room until you reach 94°C)

Yes.

Cons: bad service and avaliability in countries not in North America

bad past reputation

I question some of their asthetics. Blue Shroud and Red PCB on your 280X non-turboduo? really?
