7mm 9.5mm question

Go to solution Solved by 79wjd,

It will fit and you don't need a spacer, the drive screws or bolts in and that's enough to keep the super light SSD in place. I've done this a few times and there is no need for a spacer.

It depends on the way the ssd is attached to the computer. If theres no caddy, or the caddy is secured to the top of the ssd he will need a spacer or an adapter. If the caddy is like most and attaches to the side screws than its fine.

It will fit obviously.

If it will work is a whole different question.

Why what are the factors for it to work?

If you can put it in, connect it then you should be good to go.

However, you don't want a HDD to move so you might need to add some kind of bracket to keep it secure.

My laptop uses a 9.5mm drive, will a 7mm drive fit in it?

Please explain why.

It will fit, however I'd use a spacer so that the drive is not loose.

Desktop: Intel Core i7-6700K, ASUS Z170-A, ASUS STRIX GTX 1080 Ti, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 512 GB Samsund 840 Pro, Seasonic X series 650W PSU, Fractal Design Define R4, 2x5TB HDD

Hypervisor 1: Intel Xeon E5-2630L, ASRock EPC612D8, 16GB DDR4 ECC RAM, Intel RT3WB080 8-port RAID controller plus expansion card, Norco RPC-4020 case, 20x2TB WD Red HDD

Other spare hypervisors: Dell Poweredge 2950, HP Proliant DL380 G5

It will fit and you don't need a spacer, the drive screws or bolts in and that's enough to keep the super light SSD in place. I've done this a few times and there is no need for a spacer.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.

All laptops have a caddy or bolt on somewhere otherwise the drive that's in there now would be flopping around. I can imagine an older laptop having a drive glued or sticky taped on but those are probably IDE so out of the question to upgrade at this point.
