What is the difference between the Asus Maximus VII Hero and Gene ?

And which one is ''better''?

Hero is ATX whereas Gene is Micro ATX ie. Gene is smaller in size. You will find it easier to fit more than one Graphic Card in Hero. Otherwise both of them are pretty much same.

They have the same primary features, whereas the Gene is a smaller form factor being MATX, while the Hero is a regular ATX. You won't have as much space for adding as much expansion cards on the Gene as you will on the Hero due to the Gene having less PCIe slots.

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

Maximus IIV Hero is more of an ATX board with one more PCE X16 (phisicly) Slot an being slightly larger

Maximus IIV Gene is more optimized for slightly small formfactor builds by being an mATX, slightly short and having on PCIe X1 Slot
