Hey guys. I'm really ocd with my cabling and I can't seem to route my exhaust fan properly to any chassis fan header, but I have a spare cpu opt header that I could route the exhaust fan too (it's a pwm fan). Would it be safe to do this? Any effects if so?

Cheers

Your exhaust fan would simply run as fast as your CPU fan.

That header is designed to give people with dual tower air coolers the option to run two fans on their towers at the same speed

PS: Since you're such an OCD of cable routing, would you mind posting some pics here whenever you're done building? :D

My cooler has 2 fans but it came with a fan splitter so allows me to connect them into 1 header

Alot tougher than I had expected. The long version of the sata connectors (not sure what they're called) were a pain in the ass to cable manage. My power supply came with 2 of those, and each had 4 connectors on 1 cable but the connectors were way too small to reach from the ODD bay to the hard drive bay, so I had 2 use 2 and that messed things up. Note the fan cable near the pci slots thats pissing me off :P

I'm gonna redo it in a few weeks hopefully, when I get some time. I'm not bothered about the mess near the power supply because there is nothing I can do about that anyway.. I'm not sure how to sort out the issue with the sata thing though, my friend also says his was the same and he had to use one for each. Why do they make them so short...

I've seen worse, but do you really need all those modular cables?

Also, I'd buy a grill for the bottom fan if it were me

Every one of those has some use so I can't take any out, I have to plug in 2 sata cables because of the problem I said earlier, connectors being too short and me having 2 peripherals, everything else is needed afaik (cpu, motherboard, gfx card, and a molex connector for the fan controller for r4)

Do you know of any sata power connector cables I can replace them with? I can't seem to find any that have a decent size where I can maybe use one cable only. My hard drive and ODD are quite a fair distance away from eachother as I removed the middle harddrive cage for better airflow.

Sadly, no.

And considering how you've got your fan controller set up, it's not possible to use the molex harness attached to that in order to power the ODD with a converter.

If you can move the fan controller to the top, you can power the ODD and fan controller with one molex harness and a Molex to Sata converter.

That cuts you down from 3 cables to two

The fan controller is built into the case but there should be enough flex/length for the molex cable for me to do that, so I'll look into that when I redo the cabling. I tidied some of it up right now and it looks a bit better, but yeah, I have a large 3 way peripheral and 2 large 3 way sata's that are more or less redundant and thats whats causing most of my cabling to look messy. Could I not get 2 (longish) molex to sata connectors, and use them to power the hdd and odd respectively, so I only have 1 peripheral cable into my psu, and no sata cables? I've never actually used these molex to sata converterts so I'm not sure if it'll work like that.

Edit: Nevermind, I can only connect 1 extra thing to the peripheral; One connector is used for a fan connector, and another is used for my led strips.

Edit 2: Would something like http://www.candccentral.co.uk/phobya-power-sata-y-cable-internal-4pin-molex-to-2-x-sata-15cm-black-87464.html?gclid=CPWbpIvg8L4CFfDLtAodWEAALQ not do the trick? Connect it to peripheral cable and use each sata connector to connect odd and hdd? If it's long enough that is..

If you are using only one HDD&ODD you could put them both on 5.25'' bays. The bottom fan is pretty much useless since all air gets blocked by cables. For powering peripherals such as led strips and fan controller. If they use molex I would get SATA-molex adapter rather than connecting extra cable for them. Since one sata power cable has 4 connectors you can connect both to it and still have 1 hdd and odd connected.

And you could make top wires tidier, maybe have them go under heatsink. For fan cables, you can always get extenders.

Did not see this post, so apologies for replying 10 days too late lol..

As for the bottom fan, I do agree it is a waste and I think I'm gonna stick it at the top as an extra exhaust at some time. Just to clarify what you're saying, I can run my fan controller and led strips off a sata power cable using the correct adapter, or run my ODD and HDD off from the molex cable using the correct adapter?

As for the fans, I'm going to grab a bitfenix splitter, and route the fans behind the motherboard tray. The bitfenix splitter is 60cm so should be long enough for me to route the rear exhaust fan and the bottom fan if done right.

I bought a Phobya sata power extension cable a few days ago, and plan to remove one of the sata power cables and use the extension to power the ODD, so I'll only need one sata power cable then, and not 2.

Yes, thats one option. Though since some molex adapter can get pretty hot and even fail, I'd say rather use adapters on LEDs and fans/controller if thats option you'll go for.

Okay, so connect my led/fan controller to sata power cables is the best option? My sata power cable has only 3 connectors so i'll still need to run two, but won't need the molex cable that way.

Or I can just leave the molex cables there, take out one sata cable, and use the sata power extension I bought to power the ODD (the sata cable is currently too short).

I think the second method may be better because I'll have a spare sata power for an ssd i'll be buying, and won't need to use any adapters, just one sata power cable with extension, and one molex cable.
