7970 low GPU Usage

Hey.

 

I recently finished my build and everything else seems, and is fine, expect i get low GPU usage.

This appears most of games, ex. (Arma 2, Minecraft, MW3, MW2, NFS Most Wanted, CitiesXL 2012 etc..)

However, not in every games. Example Battlefield 3, Medal Of Honor, Dirt 3- 2 & 1.

 

The GPU usage in those games is around 40% but it's traveling from 20% to 90% a lot.

CPU usage seems to be around 20% in those games, and people who will tell me that CPU is bottleneck, i can say that i7 series is not bottle necking anything. I know that even core i3 should be enough in most games. Also yes, i have v-sync off.

 

I also have tried clean driver installs, including beta versions, and they give no difference to me.

Also i'v tried even re installing Windows and I was so despaired I even tried Windows 8... (shh.. don't tell anyone...) Still, no difference.

Disabling Hyperthreading, or seting CPU run max clock rate with disabling turbo boost tech.

 

Other things that I'v tried is overclocking, CPU Overclocking doesn't help, but overclocking GPU the results are pretty impressing as we know 7970 does it well. Performance boost is class 10-15 better FPS, but still usage is same half.

 

In benchmarking, 7970 gives solid 99% and results are what we can expect from this devil. It does around 15% better than average 7970.

Windows performance score gives max 7.9 both graphics.

 

 

 

 

My rig:

 

GPU:         Gigabyte AMD Radeon 7970 ghz- Edition

CPU:         Intel core i7 3770K

PSU:         Corsair CX 750 W

RAM:         Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz (32Gb)

HDD:         OCZ Vertex 3 & 3 other storage HDD's

Mobo:        Gigabyte B75 D3H

OS:            Windows 7 Ultimate x64

 

 

 

 

 

 

Please help i can't wait i can get full power out off this beast !

well this forum was made to make ppl buy and not help troubleshoot apparently........... solve this like a math problem, even if its annoying.

disassemble your whole pc and build again till you get it right

Are you still getting playable FPS in those low usage games?

Make sure you're running the latest drivers

Yes, even it's running bellow full GPU usage, those games are still "playable"  But when i increase graphical settings FPS will drop and usage is the same.

Turning power limit to 20% helps me a lot with lag but it still doesn't affect usage.

Minecraft : Java game, heavy on CPU rather than GPU unless u used tonnes of mod.

NFS MW : bad console port.

Anyway, what fps u getting in those games with low GPU usage?

Yeah, but if he's struggling on certain games with all the eye candy turned on then there is a software/hardware problem for sure.  He's not hitting a strain with BF3 but he is with Arma.  Also hitting a strain with Minecraft, this should not be.  I have a 7970 and the only thing that really has brought it to its knees has been playing Metro 2033 and that's only when it hits a minimum in the low 20's on FPS.  The average is in the mid to high 30's for that game.

That's what i have personally started think too.

 

Because most modern 2010- games does run well with Dx 11.

 

Minecraft gives around 70 FPS (Travelling)  Settings 8x AA, 16x AF, Far render, fancy, (Maxed out)     The point of this is that it doesn't mater what graphical settings i do have, it's always the same.

 

Arma 2  40 FPS, Only makes bit difference between ultra and low settings.

 

Battlefield 3 Gives 70 - 80 FPS @ Ultra 1080p,  But when i decrease settings, FPS stays the same, but GPU usage will drop.

 

& Let's forget Most Wanted, everybody have problems with it and it's known for bad optimizing.

 

 

 

Basically this gives me a feel that card is going like power saving mode when it's to hardly stressed. Only miss is Arma which has insane graphics. 

Just tried to flash the cards BIOS, but 7970 is locked well, and i couldn't do that.

 

I don't think there is any way to "force" card to run faster.. ?

Would the FPS stay the same if changed the graphics settings in BF3 to low?
