I have a cheap Ark Technology case that sucks. It has nothing that makes it even remotely appealing other than a nice little LED light. On top of that, the cooling options are rubbish. This wasn't meant for gaming systems.

I am thinking of cutting a window in the side panel and putting a pane of acrylic over it. I just got a new GPU, so I'd like my machine to look nice. i have the tools and steady hand I need, but I was wondering if anyone out there has done this as well (I figure there are probably tons of people)

Cutting side panel windows aren't too difficult just choose a design you'd like cover the cut with protective tape and trasfer teh design. Depending on the tools either use a Dremel or a jig saw with the appropriate cutting discs or blades, cut away from the line and afterwards use a metal file to work your way to the line to get a really nice straight cuts. For the cut edge you'll either need to touch up the cut, re-paint the panel or use U-channel to hide the expose edge. After get some good 3M double stick tape or silicone will do the trick to stick on the acrylic window.
