1660 Super replacement card

Go to solution Solved by PDifolco,

An used 2060 would be nice, around $150 on ebay tho. For cheap get a 1060 at $60 (but it's slower than a 1660S by a significant 30% margin)

Hi all,

I have a somewhat older pc standing around that I would like to give to my friend but the GPU doesn't work anymore.
I would like to buy a card to replace the old one and was wondering if I should get the same card that I had all these years or if there are any other ones I could look into?

The specs as they are:
- GPU: Gigabyte 1660 Super (broken)

- CPU: Intel Core i7-6700

- ram: 2x 8Gb DDR3

- PSU: Corsair CX450m

- Motherboard: HP 2B47 550-140ng

- OS: Fedora

I was wondering if there is something more modern that would be a good fit without being overkill.
I initially was considering a B580 but heard that it isn't ideal for older CPUs.

I am aiming for medium settings, 1080-1440, 60fps on games "older" AAA games like RDR2, Cyberpunk, Elden Ring

or a 3060...

A lot of choice available, you can find a gpu hierarchy, for example here :

and chose the best cost/performance ratio for you...

Can you get 60 fps in Elden Ring on that cpu? On a Xeon E3-1231v3 (Basically an i7-4790 non K without an igpu and marketed as a low end server cpu) at launch I had slowdowns playing Elden Ring with my 1660 Super. Hopefully it's better now but that old cpu could not run that game worth a crap and had my 1660 Super at pretty low usage. Also bottlenecked my 1660 Super on Cyberpunk at launch too. Was plenty for 60 fps on RDR 2 though. I don't think I'd go any higher than 1660 Super or 2060 on such an old cpu.
