Hello everybody!

<<Please don't blame me on my English!>>

This summer i'm going to work at my dad and i was thinking about upgrading my pc.

my current specs are:

- Intel Core i5 3470 CPU

- HP motherboard

- HP case

- Kingston SSD

- Seagate HDD (semi-broken, everytime i start up my pc it says that the HDD fails and i have to press F1 and the pc starts up)

- Sapphire AMD radeon hd 6450 1GB (YES! it's horrible. I bought a GTX 660 along with this PC without knowing if it would fit, it didn't and sold it)

- Kingston 4gb RAM

- 2 lovely HP monitors

the reason i want to upgrase is because while i'm gaming (even while playing minecraft) my GPU hit 96% load and my RAM usage is maxed out too. I'm playing arond with unity and 3ds MAX too and it's the same story.

I've never seen the CPU hitting 80% load so that doesn't need to be replaced, the SSD is fine too. Right now i want to change my case, PSU(this one doesn't have a six-pin PCI-e), RAM, CPU cooler, motherboard and GPU. for now, the semi-broken HDD is fine and there isn't too much important data on it and I want to focus my budget on the components I listed before.

like i said before, i have 2 monitors and my quastion is: could I use my old GPU (hd 6450) as a second GPU or is that too much for the new PSU or motherboard i listed below?

I will have a budget around 400 euro's.

I'm willing to order the components from these 2 sites:

<<They are Dutch! you probably wont understand!>>

http://azerty.nl/8/componenten.html

http://www.alternate.nl/html/highlights/page.html?tk=7&hgid=189&tgid=906

and i was thinking to order these components:

Component:                 PRODUCT:       SITE:        PRICE: (in euro's)

PSU:                             XFX core PRO 550w    ====>  http://www.alternate.nl/XFX/PRO550W-Core-Edition-550-Watt-voeding/html/product/838244?event=search (59,90  )

CASE:                          i was thinking about the ZALMAN z3 PLus, corsair 200r or Enermax ostrog. (up to 60 )

GPU:                            Saphire AMD r7 265     ====> http://www.alternate.nl/SAPPHIRE/Dual-X-R7-265-2GB-GDDR5-(11232-00-20G)-grafische-kaart/html/product/1129305?tk=7&lk=10189 (139,90  )

MOBO:                         ASUS P8B75-V       ====> https://azerty.nl/8-4924-508872/asus-p8b75-v.html (I really don't need anything better I can't OC because i have a non -K CPU and IF i had i still wouldn't) (52,70  )

RAM:                            Kingston hyperX blu 2x4    ====>    http://www.alternate.nl/Kingston-HyperX/8-GB-DDR3-1600-Kit-geheugen/html/product/888352 (69,90  )

CPU cooler:                  Cooler Master  hyper212 evo ====> https://azerty.nl/0-976-455750/cooler-master-hyper-212-evo-koeler-voor-processor-socket-775-socket-1156-socket-am2-socket-am2-socket-1366-socket-am.html (28,98  )

total price: € 411,38

Do you guys have any suggestions that might be cheaper or better?

Thank you :)

Thom.

@4everaslime, replace the hdd, double the memory, improve the gpu (and psu if necessary). That should be enough.

 the problem is, the case has a weird formfactor and 2 slot high GPU's don't fit, thats why I also need to upgrade my case and motherboard

It does i quote from the site: (Dutch again, but i will make the part where it says red)

  • Uitbreidingsslot(s)
  • 1 x processor - LGA1155 Socket ¦ 4 x geheugen  - DIMM 240-pins ¦ 1 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 ( 22 nm processor moet geïnstalleerd zijn ) ¦ 1 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 ( x4-modus ) ¦ 2 x PCI Express 2.0 x1 ¦ 3 x PCI

I don't quite understand what you meant.

by 24 pin I meant the mobo 24-pin. I think you are confusing with the ram

@Gachr

There you go :) do you need any more?

it looks like a 2 slot card woud fit but i measured it with a ruler and it didn't

(fun fact: i use LEGO tires as feet because the PC vibrated a lot xD)

The picture shows a BTX format motherboard.  Is the gpu in a PCI or PCIe slot? The white slot at the bottom looks like PCI.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

werid mobo and the casing layout is really horrible

ok suggest getting a nicer looking casing (how about coolermaster N200 or 300?) which place the mobo the right way up

1TB WD Blue will be to replace the dying HDD

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Don't order anything from alternate! I am dutch as well and was planning to order my parts there, waited 2 weeks and still nothing. Besides their service is like the worst. They do not help you at all if you have a problem. Their site is a mess, it took me and my dad (who has been working with PC's for about 30/45 years) an hour to just create an account! I know it may not sound as convincing, but trust me, you do not want to buy your parts there.

Anyways.. For the parts

I think this might be a better option:

PSU: corsair cx500m. Little bit cheaper than the xfx + it's modular.

RAM: I would say you're good to go with the Kingston ram, but here's the problem. I also have the Hyper Fury Ram and I'm going to bring my whole PC back to the store because there is a problem with the memory. This is my second kit of ram, both kits didn't work, so it might also be my mobo. In that case the Fury ram should do you just fine, but I'll keep you updated.

For the GPU I'd say go with an msi r9 270. They cost like 6 bux more, and Those 6 bux are going to be worth it (check out Linus' rant/review video about the r7 240, you'll get why u recommend the 270 ;)

Case is just personal preference.

Hyper 212 evo and mobo look fine to me.

Wow that's a wall of text, sorry for that :$

Hope it helps and I'll keep you updated about the ram

My Build log of the Satan's Cave PC Desk Project is starting to get in action! Come check it out if you feel like it  :)

Yeah I think I'm gonna buy A WD blue too but i think I'm gonna stick with the Zalman z3 plus white. it looks really slick and has a lot of fans included too (it has a fancontroller too).

I think it would look sick with some blue LED fans and the blue RAM and Motherboard

I heard some Negative things about alternate too. but I think I'm still ordering my case from them because the Zalman z3 plus (I really really like this case and it has some good reviews too) isn't available on Azerty :(

but I don't think it's necassary to have the modular cables so i will take the CX500 without the modular cables.

I bought a WD Blue and I'm disappointed, I had a Seagate before and it worked much better, quiter etc. Could you please give us the exact model of RAM and how big is your SSD?
