Random restarts

Go to solution Solved by Scary1749,

few weeks and a bios update later, it hasn't happened since

Posted (edited)

Hi! My PC powers off seemingly at random. There’s no warning, no error, it just shuts off instantly and then turns itself back on. The only consistent clue I’ve found is that disabling EXPO seems to stop the issue.

The biggest problem is that I can’t reproduce it reliably. Stress tests (OCCT, Cinebench, 3DMark) don’t trigger it, and all my temps look fine. It seems to happen most often when playing Deadlock or, weirdly, when quote‑tweeting something. It usually only happens once per session, though maybe I just haven’t noticed it happening more than that.

I think it happened when I first built the PC, but updating the BIOS seemed to fix it for a while. Another time, updating random drivers fixed it temporarily. Not playing videos on my second monitor also helped for a bit. Nothing has been consistent.

I’ve tried Windows 11, reseating RAM, running MemTest, and most of the usual fixes (though this has been going on long enough that I can’t remember everything I’ve tried). At this point I’m out of ideas and hoping someone else has seen something similar.

Specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 7600X

  • Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE

  • ASRock B650M Pro RS (bios version 3.50. EDIT: this might be the issue)

  • Corsair Vengeance 32GB (2×16GB) DDR5‑6000 CL30 (CMK32GX5M2B6000C30 i believe)

  • Crucial P3 Plus 2TB NVMe

  • Kingston NV2 1TB NVMe

  • Old laptop M.2 + HDD (one SSD doesn’t show up, never bothered fixing it)

  • XFX Speedster MERC 319 RX 6950 XT (upgraded from a 6700 XT — I think the issue existed before the upgrade but I’m not 100% sure)

  • NZXT C750 (2022) 750W Gold

  • Reaper sleeved PSU cable extensions

Any help would be appreciated — and apologies if I’ve missed something obvious. Thanks!

Your memory doesn't appear in the compatibility list, so that might be your problem with EXPO.

that is very normal behavior if expo and XMP isn't working. Try disabling EXPO and set Frequency to 6000, and primary timings to:

30-36-36-76 with DRAM voltage set to 1.4V.

Keep everything else on auto. PBO should be set to auto as well until your system is stable. If you've tinkered alot with PBO, clearing CMOS might be a good idea as well.

can you disable EXPO and set the speed manually?
