Hey all,

Thanks for taking the time to read this post. I have recently moved to a new work location where I receive accommodation for a few months at a time. Long story short, I have a computer and a laptop in my room, and it’s essential that I have a good, stable connection. There are no Ethernet ports in the room, so I have to connect to the internet using the Wi-Fi provided in the accommodation. My laptop can connect to the Wi-Fi in one room, but I believe my PC, in its current location, can’t receive the Wi-Fi and the built-in Wi-Fi receiver is too slow./ weak. My PC can’t be moved due to there only being 1 desk. I can't make changes to the room setup as I don't own it.

Can you please recommend some Wi-Fi receivers that I can use with my PC to connect to the accommodation’s Wi-Fi? I also can't move the WIFI AP as it's shared between other accommodation units. (Kinda like connecting to free WIFI at a coffee shop).

Many thanks.

From personal experience, pretty good range and stable:
Alfa AWUS036ACH v.2
I'm sure there are newer models, do take a look, the one above is WiFi5, but I can't recommend something I haven't used,.
Anyhow, it is a well-known brand in penetration testing and cybersecurity circles. The model above has packet injection support, though you won't need that heh.

Is the WiFi antennas attached directly to the back of the motherboard? I’ve seen cases where the PC case causes interference with the WiFi signal. You might be able to replace the antenna with something that connects to the motherboard  via a wire and giving the antenna a better signal to connect to.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Have you tried powerline adapters? They use the internal electric wiring inside your house for ethernet communication. It depends on the quality of the wiring, though. And router and device need to be on the same circuit.

They work great for me, that's why I'm recommending.

An example, not anything specific.

I'm away from my PC at the moment but it just has a WIFI card.

None of that will work if you read my post. The internet is provided from a wifi AP, same as a coffee shop - I don't have access to any networking.

Some cards the antenna may connect directly to the card behind the computer. Some the antenna is on a cable where you can move it. You will need to see which.

Oh yeah, it's 100% attached directly, it's behind the PC.
