Evening all,

I know zero about USP but I've moved house and power seems wee bit unstable so wanna invest in a UPS so that my home server and gaming PC don't get sudden drops even if only gives 2-3 mins to shutdown correctly

Anyone able to recommend something with UK plugs etc?

Budget is kinda open but would like to keep ofc cheap as possible.

I'm sure someone can but they'd be taking a shot in the dark since they wouldn't have any idea of what is required. Can you give details on the devices you would like backed up?

Ryzen 7 7800x3D -  Asus RTX4090 TUF OC- Asrock X670E Taichi - 32GB DDR5-6000CL30 - SuperFlower 1000W - Fractal Torrent - Assassin IV - 42" LG C2 - Windows 11 Pro

Aye good point that info would of helped 🙂

2 that matter to me most are a single gaming PC

was like 750watt i think its old has a 970 in it etc.

other thing that matters more to me is the optiplex 7040 that is acting as my home nas minecraft server etc.

ideally something pure sine wave, but i've been running on units that are "stepped approximation" fine enough for several years.

past that, it's basicly a point of measuring and doing math:

- buy one of those "plug in the wall power meter" thingies, and measure the peak power draw of whatever you're wanting to protect. for your gaming pc that'd be running some sort of gpu and cpu benchmark simultaniously, or a very demanding game.

- take that number, and double it. because any home/office UPS will barely have minutes of runtime at 100% with a fresh battery.. and ideally you dont want to be replacing that battery every year.

- round up to the nearest WATTAGE rating that's available locally. note i say wattage, because UPS'es have two ratings: VA and watts. VA is reactive power, blabla long winded explanation having to do with motors and stuff.. watts is what you're after for your pc.

- if the model you're looking at has a 12 volt battery, look one size up to a model with a 24 volt battery, or look for a different brand. units with 12 volt batteries will absolutely ROAST their batteries. because of oddities with lead-acid battery chemistry, putting two of them in series more than doubles the power output capabilities by a significant margin.
