Is it generally safe to update bios to the latest version regardless of how new it is?

As long as its not listed as a BETA BIOS, its safe 🙂

If you have a very old BIOS on certain motherboards, read every BIOS update released after the BIOS version you are currently running.
Some BIOS updates require previous BIOS updates to be installed. This is mainly seen on AM4 motherboards. I have not seen this on any AM5 motherboard, yet.

This will be written in a red or yellow text.

Some BIOS updates will also require certain chipset drivers to be installed first. This will also be written.

Again, I have only seen this on older AM4 motherboards.

Can you link me to where you have seen this, and what was the issues?

Of course, apparently and allegedly the bios update killed a 9800x3d

Maybe just update to the BIOS Version 1715 instead then.

I generally don't update my BIOS unless I need it for compatability reasons or major security updates.

I can go months if not years between BIOS updates if my system is running perfectly fine.

Thats has mainly been on ASRock motherboards with X3D CPU's.

I am personally running a ASUS TUF B650 PLUS WIFI with a overclocked 9800X3D running at 5.6Ghz, up from 5.25Ghz stock.

I am not worried in the slightest. Been running like this since January, I actually overclocked it before I even got into windows the first time I booted my system up.

I was also running the early BIOS version from December 2024 that had support for the 9800X3D until last month when I updates the BIOS again.

Remember, you will always find people who have had issues with something becuause they are vocal about it.

Absolutely no one makes a Forum post saying: My X870E works great with 9800X3D., who cares right?

You will mainly read negativity while 99% of the people out there are just having a good time.

Its absolutely worth doing research and be informed and cautious, but at some point you have to draw the line as well.

Im totally aware and agree with you.
I guess ill go with the 1715 tomorrow.
A question about PBO - if I disabled it in the BIOS, the CPU wont overclock itself right?

That is correct with the PBO. It will be disabled by default.

If you run Ryzen Master software in Windows as well, make sure its disabled there as well if you don't want to use it.

If you dont have the program, nothing to worry about.

I run PBO with a slight CO undervolt, known as Curve Optimizer.

Where do I disable it in the Ryzen Master?
I saw in my BIOS that PBO had 4 modes
Auto, Disabled, Enabled and 1 more which I dont remember so I just set it to Disabled from Auto

It will only be an option to enable it in the Ryzen Master if you have it set to auto or manual in the BIOS first if I remember correctly.

If you never clicked any Auto OC or manual mode in Ryzen Master, it will be off by default as well.
