Hey folks so I've finally pulled the trigger on my new machine.

Core of the system will be:

  • 9800x3d
  • MSI B850 GAMING PLUS WIFI6E
  • MSI 5080 Inspire
  • Toughpower GF1 850 (porting from existing system)
  • 990Pro NVm 2tb
  • 2x HDDs

I'm really struggling with what case and cooler to go for, I'm very tempted by either of  meshify 3 / Lancool 217 but I can't make my mind up. So other suggestions would be great

I also have no idea what cooler I should pick up if I'm honest. (Perhaps Air over AIO?)

My requirements are basically top I/O (my pc sits on the floor) and as quiet as possible while still maximising performance.

So hive mind Please help me out

If you aren't in the USA, you could get the Deepcool AK620 CPU cooler, but if you are in the USA, the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120se is a good cooler.

Anything Fractal for case.  Note the North can only do a 360mm AIO in front, whereas the North XL can do one on top too.   Since you haven't decided on Cooler, wortth mentioning.  🙂

Realistically any decent cooler works, as the 9800X3D isn't hard to cool.  Better coolers can give you better OC if you want it, of course.  Though I think @Hinjima is using air to OC his 9800X3D.

Correct, I am using a DeepCool AK620 Digital at a constant 30% fanspeed to cool my 9800X3D running at 5.6Ghz ( up from 5.25Ghz stock ).

I use a Fractal Torrent case.

What about aesthetics, is the PC sitting somewhere where you can still admire from floor or is it chucked in some corner/under table?

Each their own benefits, both can cool though, they differ in how they sound and how loud they get.

Thermalright Air

Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE V3

Or Air But Spirit if you find it in stock and reasonable price

Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE

Or AIO, 360mm from Thermalright

Thermalright Aqua Elite V3

or from ARCTIC

ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360

true, but when an AIO goes bad and gets noisy because of the pump, you have to replace the entire unit.

When an air cooler goes bad and gets noisy, all you need to replace are the fans.

another point to consider.

I ended up grabbing the royal pretor.

Still haven't chose a case. I may be able to use my meshify c in the mean time since the new gpu is only 3mm longer than my 3080 FE we'll see what happens

Mesh case means fans don't need to push air as hard to do the same job, which can be quieter too

It's a great case I really like it. Pushes the boundries of how small an atx case can be which exactly what I want.

If the 5080 doesn't fit I'll have to upgrade to the meshify 3 I think or the  Lancool 217 with the cool infinity mirror because I'm a child at heart.

(Or rip a fan out of the meshify c in the meantime)

ATX probably means it can definitely fit ATX motherboard
