Hey, this is my first post so be gentle >.>

Anyways, I need help with planning for my first custom PC. I have a budget of about $1000, live in the U.S., and I have a few general specifications in mind.

1 Terabyte hard drive (at least)

Wireless capable

Windows 7 64Bit

At least 3.0 GHz CPU

A single, good graphics card

Single monitor

At least 8GB RAM

A silent cooling system or fan

I'd prefer a build with an AMD CPU and graphics card, and a silent/elegant build, but I can be flexible.

So far, this is the build I have in mind:

CPU:  AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor  ($149.29 @ Amazon)
Motherboard:  Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($88.79 @ Amazon)
Storage:  Crucial M500 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($69.81 @ NCIX US)
Video Card:  MSI Radeon R9 270X 2GB TWIN FROZR Video Card  ($199.99 @ Amazon)
Optical Drive:  Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer  ($16.99 @ Newegg)
Operating System:  Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)  ($89.98 @ OutletPC)
Monitor:  AOC i2267Fw 60Hz 22.0" Monitor  ($119.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $1009.77
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)
(Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-06-07 22:47 EDT-0400)

I will add more later, depending on the feedback I get. Any help would be appreciated, and I will try to answer questions as fast as I can. Thanks in advance!

Here. You dont really need 16GB for gaming.

A nice build, but like OP said, he needs an OS and a Wi-Fi capable machine :D

The build you made for him leaves him a nice leeway for an OS and maybe a Wi-Fi card, but he'd have to go over his budget... And you didn't even add a monitor...

The only stuff i'd change is:

- CPU (you don't need 8350 if you're going to OC anyway :D)

- And to save money i'd change to 280x :D

 Something like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU:  AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor  ($139.99 @ Amazon)

CPU Cooler:  Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($29.98 @ OutletPC)

Storage:  Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($49.99 @ Amazon)

Video Card:  XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB Black Edition Double Dissipation Video Card  ($269.99 @ NCIX US)

Case:  Cooler Master Elite 431 Plus (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($39.99 @ Newegg)

Power Supply:  EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($44.99 @ Micro Center)

Operating System:  Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)  ($89.98 @ OutletPC)

Monitor:  HP W2072a (A3M50AA#ABA) 60Hz 20.0" Monitor  ($89.99 @ Newegg)

Total: $1002.87

(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

(Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-06-06 15:28 EDT-0400)

I also added a cheap 1600x900 monitor, which is by my standards a bare minimum for gaming (and my personal favorite :D), and i added an OS (You can always use an non-licenced version or a pirated version, at the least until you get enough money to buy one for yourself :D), as for Wi-Fi cards, i don't know much about them...

And if it's really so over your budget that you can't pay, use some AsRock cheaper mobo (search for 970 chipset).

I'm pretty sure that 750k would bottleneck that GPU... Especially if it's not OC'd to the max

yea :/ i think i make intel build

but IPS FHD is a must!

you can upgrade ssd later, who cares about fast load times if you look at a washed TN panel :D

how bout this, overbudget?

Yeah, but if i don't have the money, i'd rather go with 1600x900 and save money for FHD monitor, after all it's far easier to upgrade your monitor than to change you GPU/CPU/PSU/RAM/Mobo...

... you forgot ssd :D , isnt easier just to buy ssd later ? :D

Yeah :D You just buy it and plug it in :D To me it's far easier to to change HDD/SSD than to change some other parts :D

And i don't have a lot of important data that i keep on that drive, so i can re-install Windows quite easily :)
