8700k, 1080ti, 16gb ram, triple monitor....one main and two 1440x900 75hz in portrait either side.

went from a LG 1080p 75hz 8bit ultrawide, to my msi 1440p 155hz 10bit ultrawide. both using the same unknown quality dp cable.

now half my games wig out in various ways. screens disconnecting, hdr turning off and on randomly. dirext x broken and other "games failed" messages on startup with a simple "trying it again" making the game work the 2nd or 3rd time. also random crashes to desktop with no error message when the game is working

ive had limited succes with dissabling windows screen optimizations for each game, and turning off windows 10 hdr helped with others.

but the aboves not fixed some games or with others it not completely fixed every issue.

my ideas

1. better DP cable?

2. my gpu is finally dying or cant cope?

3. my two side monitors arnt helping things?

help would be appreciated

tried ddu reinstall of drivers, problem remains

temps are ok.... around 60c

tried the display port cable that came with my new monitor.....no change.

i remember a similar thing happening with my gtx770 years ago, monitors would start cutting out intermittantly after 30 mins or so of gaming, and it would get worse the longer i gamed.

that turned out to be a weird little chip on the rear of the card near the dp/hdmi ports. it was getting reallllly hot. putting a small fan on the rear of my gpu cured that.

my two side monitors are vga input only ..one using an active hdmi to vga adaptor and the other using an active display port to vga adaptor. is it possible whatever "power supply chip" that powers the "activeness" of my adaptors is wigging out?

my gpu is verticle mount and has a metal backplate....is it possible not enough air flow to the rear of the card is my issue?

urgh, while the issue was happening in dying light.....i unplugged my two side monitors....problems fixed.

looks like whatever is powering my two side monitors active adaptors is sucking up too much juice and overheating....same as i had with my gtx770 so long ago.

looks like im looking for new non vga side monitors.

just tested, seems fine with one side monitor plugged in.

both the hdmi and the displayport active adaptors worked fine when used by themselves.

i imagine having two active adaptors plugged into one gfx card along with a third passive cable monitor...overloads whatever psu chip is used on the gfx card for their activeness.

its weird it didnt do it with my older 1080p 75hz ultrawide monitor and the same two side monitors.

i guess the extra load of my new main monitor made enough heat elsewhere in the gfx card asto compromise said psu chips thermals and made it thermal cycle.

oh well....i guess i need to find some better side monitors that have a display port in socket.
