I found a 2x4GB 1866MHz CAS 9 kit for $72, which seems like a good deal, I could get 2 of these and pay $144 for 16GB vs $155-$160 for most similar 2x8GB I have found. Is there any dissadvantage to using this rather than only 2 DIMMS for a dual channel setup? I may still go 2x8GB just to leave the other slots open for the future. Any input is appreciated.

Other than less available slots, not really.

There is a thing about less sticks = less issues though.

2x8 is preffered over 4x4

2x8 has better chance of mainboard compatibility

some boards simply dont like all 4 dimms occupied, especially if your overclocking your cpu

2x8 will also OC better than 4x4

Ok, thanks guys, what is the thing about OCing processor being affected by RAM? I had never heard that.
