So I have a backwards compatible fat PS3 that I have soft modded to check temps and just to test the system to use it. Well temps are fine (I don't see 70°C at all on CPU and RSX usually stays around or below 60), but whenever I launch a game it either shuts down while loading the game or I get 5-10 minutes in and then it shuts down with beeps and blinking red light. For awhile it would just shut down randomly in the main menu of the PS3 or just using it for like Netflix or YouTube.

I have been doing research and everyones says repasted if I have high temps (which I don't) or it's something with the NEC Tokins going bad but I don't know if that's the case since I can use the system. I have tried to swap the PSU with a different one and that did nothing so I'm kinda lost as to what to do.

For the games and results I have tested so far-

Gran Turismo (PS1): Shuts down as soon as opening cutscenes runs

Gran Turismo 2 (PS1): The only one that works with no issue

Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (PS2): Shuts down after about 10 minutes of gameplay usually happens while in a race

Gran Turismo 4 (PS2): Shuts down trying to go into first License Test

Gran Turismo 5 (PS3): Shuts down either in opening scene or loading into first License Test

Maybe but I thought that was only when the console wouldn't boot up at all with the YLOD. I can still turn on and have only been getting Red lights.

Where and who would I find to even get such a repair do if I do have to end up having it done?

no idea were you get it fix or how much it cost. they need to buy another ps3 the transfer the cpu to it.

if it dose not turn on each time there a problem...

It consistently turns back on when I press the power button and I can play games (at least attempt to before it shuts itself off) so as I said I am a bit lost as to what to do.

consoles are known to still turn on and run some times but crash. its the problem with the cpu/gpu as they are in one and contacts are connecting and disconnecting do to heat. but they were alot of other errors on them so also dont no if thats the problem or not i just know as some point it will go bad. its defective. thats why the non backwards comptable consoles

have a different cpu/gpu in them. because it was a know problem.

I will only do that if it's the last option and there is someone who can do such a repair. For now I'm looking to see if the NEC Tokin replacement will do it and I guess try the thermal paste replacement though I don't think it's necessary.
