How do I solve this equation?

I know how to solve these things but I am just having a brain fart... 

 

 

The sum of the peremitors of two shapes is represented by 13x + 4y.

The perimeter of one shape is represented by 4x - 2y

Which expression represents the perimeter of the other shape?

 

A: 9x +2y

B: 9x+6y

C: 17x +2y

D: 17x+6y

Thanks.

The idea is to translate the question into equations.

 

The total perimeter is EQUATION 1, if the first perimeter is EQUATION 2, then what's the third perimeter ?

 

Translates to : EQUATION 1 = EQUATION 2 + EQUATION 3

 

Therefore : EQUATION 3 = EQUATION 1 - EQUATION 2

how about  B: 9x +2y?

 

Because 9x+4x and 6y-2y

= 13x+4y

 

but don't know seems like some logic test or something? :D

 

4 - -2 is not 2, it's 6... therefore 6y, not 2y.
