Any thoughts about choosing between the new B850 and the old B650?

I use the b650 tomahawk with a 7700X and an RTX 4070 Super.聽 It's great.聽 Dual boot windows 11 and Bazzite

聽With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

I read that the B850 has a different VRM (does this mean inferior?) than the one on X870/X870E, any comment on that and the VRM on the B650? Should I sacrifice 5G LAN and Wi-Fi 7 for 2.5 LAN and WiFi 6 and get a CPU with more cores instead?

What are you planning on doing with the system and what CPU did you plan on using?

No gaming, running multiple application tasks, not decided yet on a CPU, considering 6, 8 and 12 cores.

Alright 馃檪聽 The 9900x is a really good, its a 12 core 24 threaded CPU and the price is fair in my opinion.

The B650 Tomahawk would easily handle this CPU, even during 100% sustained loads.

Price wise I was also suggested 7900 (and not 7900x).

They are quite similar in performance and a 7900 is a 65w CPU while a 7900x is a 170w CPU.

They are similar to a 9900/9900x and are a bit cheaper as they are previous gen CPU's.聽聽

You'd get an 'X' board if you were planning on filling all your pcie slots and overclocking the snot out your ram and cpu

Seen benchmarks but I did not get a clear picture about the real difference in performance between 7900/7900x and 9900/9900x.

Filling all pcie slots will depend on how many there will be and not really though about overclocking.

The impliment was that you'll get a lot more lanes to play with on the X boards.聽 Don't forget all your modern NVMe stuff uses PCIe 'slots' too
