Cpu or Ram is dead

Go to solution Solved by krgesu,

Hello. Turns out both the cpu and motherboard were cooked.

Hello. Recently I have been playing a non demanding game and my pc froze. The alt -f4 did not work neither the power button on the case. I have tried to press and hold it for a minute or so but it did nothing so I cut the power at the power supply. Afterwards when I tried to start the pc the pc turned on then off again without a splash screen. The debug leds on the motherboard indicate cpu and ram problem. The motherboard seems ok. there is power and fans spin ok. The keyboard works and is responsive. The monitor wakes up and goes in to stand by mode for signal. My current pc specs are Ryzen 9600x, Corsair Vengeance ddr5 2x16gb, B650M-HDV/M.2 motherboard, Samsung 990 pro ssd, asus rx 9070 xt and be quiet! Pure Power 12 M power supply unit 850 W 20+4 pin ATX Black. I have tried to reset the cmos and it only changed how fans behave. I have tried to reseat the power cables, I have tried the integrated gpu, I have tried to swap ram places, tried one ram stick at a time in different places. I would assume it is the cpu but I do not have any way to test it. I might get my hands on some ram later today but I am not sure. All pars have warranty and I was about to RMA my cpu, but from what I read online similar cases to mine 99 people out of 100 would go with bad ram. I would like to know which part is at fault before I rma anything. Thank you for any responses. Sorry I am writing via touch screen device and I have misclicked and posted this prematurely.

Okay, are we supposed to guess the rest of the question?

What happened when you alt-f4? Does the PC still work? is it turning on?

Hello. I am sorry. I have accidentally pressed post before finishing my post.

Also I have been using this system for about a year. Played all games, did all the performance benchanks when the pc was built but did not do any overclocking. Only enabled amd specific ram xmp thingy.

test with only one stick of RAM in the slot recommended in your motherboard manual.
If it still fails, swap to the other stick, same slot.
If one works and the other doesn’t → bad stick.
If neither works in the primary slot, try both in an alternate slot.
Borrowing another DDR5 kit, even a cheap one, is the fastest way to confirm.
Also:
Clear CMOS again with battery removal not just jumper.
Check that the 8-pin CPU power is fully seated.
Make sure your BIOS is up to date for Ryzen 9600X support.
If the system POSTs with different RAM, then it’s definitely your kit. If not, next suspects would be motherboard or PSU, but CPU is usually the last to fail.

Don’t RMA the CPU yet, rule out RAM first, since that’s what fails 9/10 times in situations like this.

Hello. I have removed cmos battery for 10 minutes but no change, I have tested the system with my friends memory but that did not help either. I have reseated all the power cables but no change. The bios supports my cpu because I was running this system for a year now. I bought the cpu and motherboard from the same retailer wouldn't it be possible to send these parts together since I do not have the means to test these parts individually?

EDIT: Just to be extra super duper sure I have tested one of my own memory sticks in my friends pc and the memory worked. Which would indicate mother board damage since mb is misdiagnosing memory?
