I'm new to PC gaming and there's been more than once I've made a post here and people have helped steer me in a better direction. Now I'm looking for a keyboard. I've never used anything other than a mass produced office key boards, and my laptop, an old MSI stealth G63, has a steelseries branded chiclet keyboard. What a good entry point for mech keyboards? I've done some research and i want a hot swappable, black, aluminum frame just because i don't want to have to buy that again if i want to change switches or upgrade from plastic. I think i want silent tactile switches (brown i guess, I'm a little confused by the naming scheme). I think as good starting point would be similar to a keyboard in used to, so roughly 45g resistance, 4 mm stroke max 3ish might be better. I'm not sure about layout, I really like the galaxy 100 layout, but I'm not sure i really need tenkey. So I'm definitely open to 75 or 80%. ID also like a volume knob or scroll wheel. Lastly, obviously i want it to be affordable. Hopefully less than 150$ CAD any more than that and I have trouble justifying it vs a GPU upgrade.

For a good entry point under $150 CAD, you could look at something like the Keychron V1 or V3  hot swappable, solid build, and available with silent tactile brown switches. Another good budget option is the Akko 3068B, which also has hot swap and decent build quality.

Thanks, I'm actually on their website right now. But they have so many product lines, it hard to tell what's what when your unfamiliar. Ill definitely look at those 2 you mentioned.

To add to my original post, i don't need wireless. Obviously its nice if i wanted to set up a living room PC but for now it'll just sit on a desk and i find it annoying to have things (my mouse) run dead and then need to be a wired connection anyway.

AliExpress got you covered! Here's one
It already comes with 46g tactiles, but for specifically silent ones - TTC Frozen or Akko Fairy
Keycaps - regular PBT, shine-through PBT one and two

+ 1 for keychron, they're really comfy, and have a nice sound, idk the name either but they just sound like old IBM keyboards basically (a little less loud maybe lol)

If you want all the bells and whistles you're looking at wooting (or razer):
