pc randomly greenscreens

Go to solution Solved by y0ur5h4d0w,

could be even a low power issue but it's most unlikely, you SHOULD be fine with 600w however i would go at least for an 850w just to be sure, do you have any spare PSU or any pc parts shop you can ask for a test?

now that i remember there was another guy on here that had a similiar issue, he was gaming and randomly the fans of his GPU started to ramp up to 100% for no reasons, he had a windows update before this issue started. did you update windows 11 before this issue started to appear? you might want to try to uninstall the latest windows version and check if this solves the issue (REMEMBER TO BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE ATTEMPTING THE UNINSTALL), a better test would be to clean install windows to another disk even if it's slower doesn't matter, clean install, install ONLY the drivers and a game for stress test, DO NOT update windows and check if the fans start to spin at max.

if even on a clean install the issue isn't fixed then RMA of the GPU is the only solution, unless you want to try to install linux and check if it works fine there

PC specs:

Asrock b450 steel legend

Ryzen 5 5500

RX7600XT 16 gig

G.skil trident z 32 gig

Deepcool LS720 aio

MSI MAG 650W PSU

So recently, i bought a new gpu Gigabyte RX7600xt (upgrading from RX6600). At first the upgrade went smoothly, downloaded the latest drivers from AMD, etc. Did not play any games really, played a few games of Fortnite, less than an hour in RDR2 until I noticed the fans of my new gpu sounded like a jet engine. I tweaked the fan curves of my gpu and thought this would help, it did to a degree. Then my pc started to freeze, greenscreen and add weird lines on the screen (will attach images). I did some research and tried many different things like removing xmp on my ram, reinstalling the gpu drivers (used DDU to uninstall it), reseating the gpu, taking out the power cables and putting it back in. At first i thought its maybe a power issue but a 650w psu should be more than sufficient power. It became very frustrating because the green screens (a solid green screen) would now appear at random, even when browsing the web. So i stopped playing games to see what was going on. So earlier I decided to play DBZ Kakarot (not a very demanding game) on the same settings i would use on any other game, i played for about an hour until i got a crash, i got the usual AMD crash report but it did not greenscreen and reboot, surprisingly. This made me think its possibly an issue with AMD's drivers. But then i thought to play a game of Fortnite, the game froze and green screened once again rebooted. So i decided to shut and not play any games. I switched on my pc again later during the day to do some work, the pc stayed on for about 4 hours (actually quite long without any green screens) while i did my work. Until it just randomly green screened again but this time it would not display after the reboot. I turned it off at the psu switch removed the plug then put it back in and it just refused to display, then i tried a different hdmi and still nothing. I put my old gpu in and what would you know i got it to display. I even played a game of fornite for a whole hour and no green screens at all.

Any one with advice on this because im quite frustrated with the fact that i got a new gpu but its been nothing but stress over the last couple of days. Seems like old faithful didnt want to be replaced XD.

Maybe try remove every trace of the drivers and reinstall. Sounds like a driver issue.

That looks like either VRAM corruption, or a bad video cable.

At this point I'm begging Nvidia and AMD to provide a utility to let us scan for VRAM errors. If it's got a bad chip (it can happen) we the consumer want to know about it!

There are many tools to check your VRAM. All tho not as good as ECC check like datacenter cards have.

You really jumping the gun with the diagnosis here.

Does that look like a software issue? It doesn't for me. This is from the link OP posted.

Thanks for the advice, ive got a spare pc i can test it on. I recently got back from uni and decided to give it one more go, still no display at all. I'll try on the second pc. If that doesnt work ill send the card for RMA since i purchased the card less than a week ago.

if something like artifacts appears on the screen and you changed already your cable and reseated the GPU it's most likely a near to dath GPU, sometimes drivers can do that kind of stuff but it's unlikely

so i can confirm its the gpu. not too sure you can see the images couldnt get it to focus nicely. but i used my old gpu to confirm the second pc displays, put the new gpu in and no display and also the vga light shone the entire time. So ima send the card for RMA.

Thanks once again for the advice, really appreciate it 🫡

you're welcome! as a general rule of thumb ANY glitch you see on your screen is tied with 99% confidence to a dead or near death GPU, sometimes is the cable but it's really rare in my experience
