First of all my spec are:

Ryzen 9950x

2x16gb

Asus TUF Gaming x870-plus wifi

Corsair HX1200I

ASUS 5090 TUF

580.97 driver

All components are new. I’ve had them for about two months. So far, I haven’t noticed any issues, but I also haven’t played any demanding games.

The problem is that my computer resets itself. I’m almost 100% sure the issue is with the graphics card. The problem started in Cyberpunk, and the PC usually resets within 5–30 minutes of playing. When I started troubleshooting, I focused on the graphics card and the PSU.

The PC resets in three different ways. The most common one is that it just resets and goes back to Windows. A few times it reset, and during boot the lights inside the case flickered a bit, and then the PC shut down. The last situation was that the game just crashed, but this happened after I lowered the GPU power to 67%. These events happened in Cyberpunk. However, when I tested with FurMark, the PC shut down within 5–10 minutes at both 100% and 67% GPU power.

I changed the PSU setting from multi-rail OCP to single OCP with no effect. I also replaced the power cable for the graphics card. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. Prime95 stress test runs without any issues, which again suggests the problem is with the graphics card.

I don’t know how to proceed. In the attachment, I’m including a GPU-Z log — one with 100% GPU power (GPU-Z Sensor Log.txt) and another with 67% GPU power (GPU-Z Sensor Log1.txt). The log was created while FurMark was running. I’m also attaching a report from CPUID (system.txt).

how are your temps under heavy loads?

did you try to DDU and install a previous version of drivers? (might not be the case but since the issue seems really weird it might needs creative troubleshooting)

if everything is new you could try to return your GPU and have a new one just for the sake of testing, or better if you have an old GPU you could use that to test out some stuff

Temps are unfortunately OK as that would be quick troubleshoot.

I had installed 576.88 driver version on new windows install. After problems started i did installed newest driver 580.97 after that did not solved it i did use DDU to reinstall 580.97 version.

I would really try to avoid returning GPU as that would take long time i bought graphic card on amazon.de (Germany) but Germany is not my home country so before that i would like to try to explore other options or at least be sure that my GPU is faulty.

I do have my older GPU which is 2080ti. Like i said im pretty sure is something in connection to GPU but what is strange to me is that limit GPU power from 100% to 67% which is minimum in ASUS software did not solve my problem. I was sure that would help if there was problem with drawing power.

Thank you

Did you install any new software or make any other changes to your PC when it started to crash?

I don’t think so. It’s hard to say exactly when the problems started.

When I first built the system, I didn’t run any stress tests. I played The Witcher 3 and everything seemed fine, but my sessions were short (around 30 minutes) and not very frequent. Later, I played Fallout 4 for a few days with longer sessions of about 2–3 hours, still with no problems.

Then I moved on to Cyberpunk 2077. At first, it seemed fine, but I honestly can’t remember how long those sessions were. Thinking back, probably not that long because running that game during a heatwave made my room really hot, and if I wasn’t playing, I wouldn’t leave it running.

A few days ago, I finally had an evening free and decided to play Cyberpunk again. This time, the game started crashing — usually within 30 minutes at the latest.

So, make of this what you will. It’s possible the issue was there from the beginning, or that it appeared only recently. If I had to guess, I’d say it wasn’t there at the start,

but I can’t be 100% sure.

Do you have the temperatures of your system, CPU and GPU?

GPU temperature: In Cyberpunk and Furmark, it reaches about 75°C

CPU temperature: in Cyberpunk 80°C under load, during Furmark it just sits at 50°C (obviously since Furmark doesn’t stress the CPU).

Right now, I’m stress-testing Furmark with my old RTX 2080 Ti – it’s been running for an hour and a half without any issues.

Since I had to change the GPU power cables for the 2080 Ti, I also decided to try

4x 8+2 pin to 12VHPWR adapter for the RTX 5090 and again In Furmark, it ran for about 30 minutes, then the PC restarted.

I’ve been testing my old 2080 Ti in Furmark on the same system as the 5090 for almost 3 hours without any issues. This should at least rule out other components, or make them much less likely to be the cause.

I think I jinxed myself. Not even five minutes after posting the previous comment, my system shut down while I was just watching YouTube—literally doing nothing. This was the first time it crashed outside of FurMark or Cyberpunk. I had finished a FurMark stress test before posting that comment. And it happened with my old card (2080 Ti), which makes me think this probably rules out my new 5090 as the issue, right?

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to update this post so the topic has a proper conclusion. I’ve retested everything and can confirm there’s nothing wrong with the RTX 5090, as I was able to reproduce the crash with my 2080 Ti.

Here’s what I’ve done from my last post yesterday:

  • Changed the power cable to the PSU and swapped the electrical extender — crash still occurred.

  • Narrowed the issue down to the PSU. I tested my old Corsair RM1000x with the 2080 Ti for 6 hours with no crashes.

  • Tested the new Corsair HX1200i with the 2080 Ti — crash happened at the 45-minute mark.

  • Switched back to the RTX 5090 with the HX1200i — crash occurred within 30 minutes.

  • Currently testing again with the RM1000x; the test has been running for 1.5 hours without issues.

I’ll continue testing by playing Cyberpunk today and leaving FurMark running while I work tomorrow. If anything changes, I’ll post an update. Otherwise, this topic can be considered concluded.

Thanks for all the help — much appreciated!

A PSU or power issue would have been my first guess. Loose connections that can cause issues or the PSU is just not keeping up.

Yeah, the PSU was the issue. No more crashes with my old one. I suspected from the start that it had something to do with the power, but I just couldn’t believe the PSU would be faulty—it’s practically brand new. What really threw me off was that Prime95 ran for quite a while without any problems, and I could only reproduce the crash when putting a load on the GPU.

Prime95 stresses the CPU.

Corsair has a good warranty, so they should cover it with no problem.
