I'm looking for a new laptop for school. Ive decided that a at least 120gb ssd, touch screen, full Hd screen and light are all a must. I've got it narrowed down to two models. The Sony Vaio pro 13 and the Asus U38N. These seem to be my choices in my area for my requirements. Looking to pay around $1000-1300 AUD. What do you think would be the better choice out of the two?

But out of those two I would definitely go for Sony, even if it might explode.

Eww:

During the Laptop Battery Test (continuous Web surfing via Wi-Fi), the ASUS U38N lasted 3 hours and 40 minutes. That's 2 hours and 22 minutes less than the 6:02 ultraportable average. The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga lasted 6:18 while the Samsung Series 5 Ultra finished at 6:10.

Go with the ASUS laptop, and what about a Macbook?

The Asus laptop is awful did you even read the reviews.

Haha no. To be honest I dont want to switch to a new OS, that's all

Well, then, if Sony and Asus are good for you then look at the reviews from people who owed them.

Surface Pro 3 maybe?

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

It's barely a new OS, even the keyboard shortcuts are the same, you can get MS office for mac. But MacBook airs dominate the ultrabook scene, 12 hour battery life, awesome track pad and keyboard. You can get them for $1150, right in your budget.

Thanks for the advice guys. Do you think that a 128GB SSD would be enough for a school device. Probably lots of papers and resources + Skype, Steam, Hearthstone, FTL and some other small applications.

Also, do SSDs slow the more data I have on them? i.e. If I fill it to 90%

it's recommended to not go over 80%.

Can't say for sure, I have a 240GB SSD and the most full it's ever been is about 60GB (so 180 free). YMMV. People often over estimative storage requirements, but I'd rather overspend on more than not have enough.

In future I'm getting a 128GB model, because I can't use all 240GBs. Also, Windows takes up about 20GB vs ~10 for OS Xf

Yeah but try it on a hard drive and you're gonna have a bad time. An 80% full SSD is still better than any single hard drive you can really get realistically.
