I put together a new build and I have two issues. One are the Lian Li fans and the other is the HDD. Buying the fans have been a nightmare since it's you can't get any of the 140 fans in a triple set, but you need the controller.

1. I bought six of the Lian Li UNI Fan SL-Infinity 140 single reverse fans. I was unable to buy them in triple packs so I didn't get a controller with them. Then I bought three regular Lian Li UNI Fan SL-Infinity 140 single fans (again, no controller). Then I bought one triple pack of the Lian Li UNI Fan SL-Infinity 120 fans (comes with the one controller I needed). So in the end this gives me three sets of three fans and one set of two fans (120's).

So I went ahead and used that controller from the triple 120 pack, plugged the four cables from the four sets of fans into it. I plugged the USB from the controller to the motherboard, this only left the two sata cables from the controller so I used two sata cables from my PSU (not one cable, two for better power delivery). Once I turned the PC on all eleven fans were the standard RGB rainbow colors. I proceeded to install L-Connect 3 and once I did that it seems all the fans went to solid blue, red, and green colors which I took as a good sign. But the software only shows two options on the left: "System Info", and "Settings", nothing else. So the software wasn't picking them up.

So then I started trouble-shooting:

I verified everything was connected correctly.

I tried using one PSU sata cable instead of two.

I, of course, restarted and reinstalled L-Connect several times.

I tried unplugging all but one set of fans, and tried different slots on the controller.

I tried plugging the USB header into another spot on my motherboard.

Now the USB that goes into the controller is a really weak connection by design so I noticed if it falls out the fans would go full speed and the colors would change. So I made sure it's always plugged in now.

So after all that trying to get it to work, ALL eleven fans have no RGB at all and are on full blast non-stop even with the USB plugged in. I have it all plugged up the same way I did in the start.  It just makes no sense. But I did have one of the cords that goes from the fan set straight to the motherboard with the 3-pin and 4-pin, so I unplugged all sets and did that with the one set of fans and it lit up. So that was good news but the L-Connect still didn't recognize or do anything even though I took the controller out of the equation and went straight to the motherboard (this might be correct for this method though?). I still only have those two options that show me nothing.

I've been messing with this for hours and have gotten no where. The only things I can think of are that the controller is dead or this controller is specifically for 120 fans, not 140, but as far  I've researched it's the same controller in the triple packs whether you get the 120 or 140.. so this leads me to believe it's not the issue.. They were all RBG at first but the software wasn't working, now no RGB is working along with L-Connect. It's brand new.. I don't get it. I'm tired. I paid so much for these and it's been a nightmare. Ayn ideas?

2. After a random amount of time after the system is started  (short period such as 0-10 minutes), I start here a high-pitched noise that I haven't actually heard from a HDD before. It seems to just keep going and going and won't stop. Sometimes the sound even got faster once. Now I'd like to note that this drive was just installed and new so it's literally doing nothing. I'm not using it in anyway, it's just connected. I never even allocated it in Disk Management yet.

Here is the noise: NOISE.

If anyone has any thoughts, please help.

Thanks.

1 can't you connect the fans directly to the motherboard ?

2 that sound isn't so bad, I'd do the tests with the manufacturer software or with HD Sentinel

1. I'd have to have 3-pin and 4-pin times 4.

2. For a new drive... I don't feel it should sound like that and it doesn't stop. It shouldn't be making any sounds except for when in use?

Not sure what you're saying, not native speaker.

You can daisy chain those fans easily, right ?

So you end up needing 3-4 fan headers ? (these days are all 4-pin headers and those can accommodate either 3-pin and 4-pin fans)

As far as I know your mobo has total 7 fan headers (including the pump header).

My WD drive surely makes some fancy noises on a regular basis. Also I believe Windows likes to access drives once in a while.

While I agree the noise is surprising if it's always ON, it does sounds ok to me.

Is a program accessing that drive ?

I can't use my motherboard as my AIO takes up half of that or more. Plus it limits the RGB, the entire reason I went with them. I tried a new controller and I got them back to being solid RGB colors but the software won't recognize them no matter how many times I install.

The HDD is still making noises when it's idle. It makes no sense. I've never had a HDD do that and of course no one else ever has the issue I do so no one is replying. Building a new PC has been a complete nightmare where nothing works and everything being OOS.

Go to settings>"Power and Sleep">click on "Additional Power Settings" (on right of screen) >in the window that pops up click on "change power settings" on the selected plan> then click on "change advanced power settings".

In that pop-up window the first setting is Hard Drives. You may have it set to have the HDD "never sleep"

that's for Win 10

I tried setting it to Never, then windows, if you reopen the dialog, resets that to 0 which is fine if it works but the drive still made noise. I can't take it. I have to get something just as good, any ideas?

setting to Never means the drive will always be on and Never goes to sleep.

It defaulting to 0 is odd, my system defaults to 20 minutes.

I've tried tons of minute values: Never, 0, 10000, 2880, 800, 1200, nothing works, it just starts clicking. I know there are some posts about this in other places. Seems crazy... but the setting doesn't seem to work with this drive or something. I don't get it.
