Will I need a sound card for my pc build (http://pcpartpicker.com/user/vicenteg24/saved/8RfmP6), very confused about deciding.

If not, should I at least get a sound card dongle? Recommendations?

That depends.. What's your main driver?

Meaning, what headphones? Speakers?

What are you trying to connect to said sound card?

Because if you go for a, for example, $100 headset - no, there will be NOTHING noticable between a $200 sound card and Gigabyte's on-board sound.

On the other end of things, if you're using some power hungry headset like an HD800 or so, then yes, it'll help... Though not as much as a DAC.

I am planning on getting a $40 headset, logitech g230, nothing big. I was going to get the g430, but the reviews i saw led me to believe that it wasnt worth the extra cash

you dont need one. sound cards are being pretty much useless now audio qualities just going down and down also dacs are pretty much better if your headphones require anything but for such meh headsets like the one your getting the on boards fine. the gigabyte motherboard has fairly high end stuff already

Now, to be fair, Logan's videos has quite a few flaws in it.

But a sound card for a $40 headset? That doesn't make sense to me. If your onboard blows what you could do is get a $30 Asus sound card, just for sound. And for the future, if you upgrade later, too.

how much were you going to spend on the sound card because put that to a headset, like the corsair 1500 or 2100
