Make sure we had no idea where I said post this. It’s related to a build question, but not because of the build.

See my insurance is putting in a check but somebody push something through the bank account already. It’s still $1000 off my insurance settlement for rebuilding my computer.

And they will not return it, and I don’t know if I can literally ever get it back.

So I’m gonna have to use some part insurance and part out-of-pocket over several months, to complete the build. I have a problem is is unlike the more expensive parts that I would need the insurance money for like the GPU, CPU, SSDs, etc. I would have no way to test these components until I got everything together or we I’m figuring sometime between November and January.

Should I pick up those expensive parts and store them even though I have no way to test to make sure they’re not DOA?

Basically, I am down to 2000 insurance and I’ll have about $438 a month starting in September to pull out of my own pocket to go towards the bill. It is not a cheap bill for the simple fact that it is doing a lot all at the same time on one computer.

It’s gonna have a RX 9070 XT, rise and nine 9950 X, 64 gigs of RAM, a main 2 TB G5 SSD, and a secondary 4 TB G4 SSD.

I know it’s overkill from those, but I will be doing 4K HDR10 gaming on modern AAA games, while streaming 1440P 60 FPS, and recording to the secondary drive the full 4K HDR 10 that I can upload to YouTube as a VOD after the stream. By the time you add in the 4K HDR 10 gaming the streaming requirements while recording and then add in factors like sound alerts OBS overhead VT tube studio, it’s a lot to ask out of a computer that you want to last four years minimum.

thank you in advance on the advice if I should just go ahead and buy the most expensive parts and just put them in a box until I get the rest of the components to build the computer. I highly value the groups opinion on this because. Into computers as well and know the kind of risks. And on a sidenote, I will be buying on Amazon and I do have a $17 a month service that covers all past and future purchases under warranty. And they do say they will cover things like the GPU and CPU.

again, thank you in advance and look forward to your responses.

tl;dr : If things ain't rare to find and buy, don't make it like they are.

Just buy later at once
Probably can get cheaper price on stuffs by then too

Unless there's like some sorta mega sale that slashes price greatly right now, which then you will probably have to rely on warranty on DOA stuffs.

(I don't live where amazon exist you see, so pardon me if there's something wrong with my logic about DOA refund claim)

It's not exactly like GPUpocalypse era right now where if you don't buy now there will be none until some months later, in which you still have to compete with scalping bots, you know.

Yeah, that’s just the problem, with my disability I can’t save up the full amount to buy everything at once. According to USD disability laws, I can only have 2000 in my bank at a time. So right now it’s actually over the limit and I have a limit amount of time to spend it. And then I tried putting it into my Mom savings account and they’ve already drained it $1000. So my 3000 is now down to 2000. Sadly, that happens a lot I’ve noticed. And if it wasn’t for that problem, I would just put the money into an account and save it up. I can’t even replace my car because of that same problem. It is a big frustration to say the least.

Asian way of dealing with sillyblocking like that :

The only kidding part is the literal "under the pillow"

edit: Actually half-kidding, since I just remembered someone who literally stored his money under pillow.

Anywho, if you are going along with what you described, it pretty much makes your original question pointless, no ?

But if you really have to / want to spend it now.

There's always the brick & mortar store way, test it at the store.

Though I dunno what kinda disability you have, so, sorry if the this advice sounds ignorant or something.

Have you discussed your situation with the Social Security department?  On how to buy larger than normal items?  Or potentially buy a prebuilt on a payment plan, seems like it would fit?

But yeah, buy it as you can.  Doesn't hurt anything at all.

I'll reserve judgement about 4K gaming on a fixed income...

Yes, that is one major problem with if you try to hide the cash, you can get serious trouble with Social Security.  During a depression, my bank account built up so high and they literally made me pay back nine months of Social Security because I didn’t spend it because I was so depressed and literally sleeping 23 hours a day. I almost ended up dead..

But number one rule when dealing with disability is absolutely what you said do not attempt to hide it. That’s why I have to buy a little at a time to make the full assembly done. Thank you for showing people that is a problem to do. So I know most people that don’t live on disability. Don’t understand that. So thank you for backing me up on that.

sadly, I’m doing a rent to own. Computer doesn’t have enough power, and my credit score has been trashed after my identity has been stolen five times. So I have no way to do financing other than rent to own. And the best I can find out there for a rent to own computer right now has a 10th gen i3 and rtx 3050.

and as for the 4K gaming, it’s because I’m utilizing a TV I already own for a monitor. And downs scaling it really looks bad at 75 inches.

and a heads up as to why I have a 75 inch TV is because with my disability I don’t get out of the house much so it is my main source of entertainment along with my computer. It has the cinema chip and I used to have a Atmos sound system till it got fried. I can’t even afford to replace that right now. So I’m gonna be going to a 2.1 computer speaker set up for the computer. but on average, I leave my house once or twice a month. Mainly because I do not have the physical means or card to do so.

yeah, the sad part is is the only broken mortar stores in the area. i Don’t actually have a way to get to. I don’t have a car

As for putting cash under the pillow without a car, I can’t even get to an ATM. My power wheelchair only has so much range in the closest ATM is over 3 miles away and round-trip that is not enough on my battery to get there.

to all: I didn’t wanna explain all the situation. I’m in simply because it is complicated and I have very limited means to my ability. I’ve been having online, I have no friends. I physically can’t go out and do stuff because I don’t have a way to transport my wheelchair without a vehicle. The wheelchair weighs 350 pounds without me in it so you need at least something with a class three head to put on a carrier on a hitch. And where I live pick up trucks are well out of my price range. A 30 year-old pick up still goes for about $7000-$10,000 where I live. really the computer is how I managed to stay connected to the world. And ever since my computer died, I’ve been fighting a massive depression. And the government doesn’t make it any easier. Any kind of settlement from the insurance has to be spent within 30 days with receipts. so I can’t even hold the money, and with what I have available I’m gonna be eating bologna sandwiches for months with Kool-Aid just to get my computer rebuilt by Christmas. If I’m lucky that is. With the unstable market with Teriffs and everything and the United States, I really don’t know what prices will be our hour let alone months by month.

The more I think about my situation, I don’t think I have a choice but to pick up those big components with the insurance check that I have to show receipts for, and I’m just gonna have to store them until I can use my own out-of-pocket money to get the rest of the stuff to get the build up and running. but the power surge was so bad that even my old keyboard and mouse was smoking.

Understanding your limited financial constraints you should do what you can to build as you go.  Some things will just need to be what you end up with from the start, such as case, PSU, motherboard, CPU.  Other things can be finalized afterwards.  For example, get a motherboard that can output video through a CPU that has integrated graphics.  That way you can at least get up and running while you wait to spend on the final GPU you want.  Also, not ideal, but you can split your memory into two purchases.  Assuming you are doing two sticks you can run with only one stick if needed.  By hedging where you can you may be able to get everything you need faster if you can get closer to your max each time period.  Of course storage can be acquired piecemeal as well once you have your boot drive in place.

But I'm just talking out my ass.
