2nd hand laptop

I am looking to buy a lighter cheap laptop for university. I have previously had a larger gaming laptop but with my current use of a pc I was gifting this down to my younger brother. As a result, I will need a new laptop but only to run a number of applications like microsoft 365 (or equivalent) as well as being slightly easier to travel with. I found a used laptop second hand that I believe is a good deal but just looking for a second persons opinion.

 

List price - £208.68 + £19.55 shipping but I would probably look to make an other around the £180 mark excluding shipping.

Intel I5 1235U core

Intel Iris Xe Graphics 

16gb 3200MHz Ram

500gb SSD

No obvious physical damage 

Not included in listing but from googling battery life looked to be around 8 hours

Its a good price but be gentle with the hinge! These are prone to snap after a couple years due to putting screws into plastic. Also dont be misled by corecount these have 2 performance cores and 8 potato's so it is easy to slow these down when you have too many things going on. If that happens just close some things its normal.

Ye its just something to use on the move for uni so only needs to handle a lighter load and defo not a BIFL so hinge should not be a worry

Update for you he managed to smash the screen when packaging it

Well then onti the next one. Check some amd options id avoid intel 2p8e core options in 15w tdp or less cpus as they are just slow.

 

Funnily enough had to deploy one of these bought new at work today. Man it was slow took 3 hours fpr whats normall 90m tops. Defo had thermal issues/tdp limits harsher than stock

He sorry for the late reply been busy the last couple of weeks. Is there any specific chips you would recommend looking out for the AMD naming system does confuse me a bit

Yeah so the amd scheme is beyond horrible garbage gabolium trash. But like any 6 core of the past 3 years is fine really. Best you can do is look at a laptop, look up cpu and if its zen 4/zen5 then it's good.

 

Their hx ai max garbage name 200 series is usually zen 4 and the 300 series 380 and up are zen 5 the lower ones are zen 4. There's also the 9000 mobile series which is generally zen 5

Sorry to reopen this thread but have finnaly got round for looking at laptops again. Wondering if any of these are sensible choices. Leaning towards the first one because of price and the fact i only need it in lectures and on the go.
