Now that the tablets running full windows are becoming more and more a thing do you think ARM tablets with mobile operation systems will die out. Imagine X86 tablets geting so good that they basically replace ultrabooks, would you still buy an Android tablet or an iPad?

Personally, I think tablets are giant a waste of potential in their current stage. They are nothing more than giant mobile phones with no phone functionality. Ever since I got my Galaxy Note 3 I have stopped using my tablet because what's the point it does exactly the same thing as my phone only it's more clunky.

I have a Galaxy tab 2 and an Acer Iconia W510. I honestly don't prefer one over the other, they both have their up's and down's. The only real step back on the Galaxy Tab is that it doesn't have Flash player.

who buys a tablet?

While I don't have use for tablets in their current stage, I think the tablet form factor is here to stay. It will replace the cheap laptops and ultrabooks in the future. It is perfect for not-very-tech-literate people since it's so intuitive to use. A small portable machine that can surf the web and run basic applications.

I think the keyboard is here to stay.  A tablet + keyboard is basically a laptop imo

I didn't say it would eliminate the keyboard or mouse for that matter. The keyboard, the mouse, the sound system all can stay in one table hooked onto a dock and all you would have to do is plug the tablet onto it.

Actually the future I'm suggesting is already here. See Asus Transformer for example.

Is it? How much difference is there between a Windows 8 tablet and Asus Transformer Book? Take the screen and give it to somebody, would they be able to tell that it is a notebook and not a tablet?

x86 all the way, getting a Microsoft surface pro delivered in 4 days, i spent a whole day deciding for a tablet as i was getting one for my birthday. spent countless hours doing spec comparisons from ipad air to smasung tablets to nexus tablets to lenovo tablets, you name it, then i saw an asus T100, which had windows 8 on a 64gb ssd and i was curious about that, ended up deciding for the surface pro 128gb for work and videos.

After two Android tablets I realised that they are just Android phones with large screens... They are good for ocasionally watching a movie or reading a book (in my case) and that's it. I even started hating them because the budget ones are utter poop. I'd honestly give them both up for a single W8.1 tablet any day. The 8.1 tablets are much more use to me. They work great, metro mode is super smooth although I do see problems with small screens and desktop mode but it's nothing that isn't solvable and I'd love to get a budget one. :)

Actually both should remain popular, AMD is taking both ARM and x86 and bringing them together will project Skybridge. So eventually it may become option to whichever you would rather use (or even dual boot). Personally I like Android for handling my facebook, paypal, among other things as its far more secure than Windows. Tho I wouldn't mind being able to run x86 software from the inside of my pocket.

there will still be uses for tablets, mostly for kids. until you are in high school an arm tablet will be fine.

Now that there are X86 processors that use so little power whilst having far superior performance, I feel X86 is the way to go. Also I believe ARM is approaching the Thermal Wall so I don't expect much of a performance increase.

I think ARM has already been pushing the acceptable heat limits. The thermal wall is the least of their worries.

My phone should not be hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold but newest flagship phones all get super hot.
