Hey everyone,

As mentioned in the title, I’m planning to upgrade my PC.

I mainly use my setup for gaming and occasional streaming. Since I have a 240 Hz monitor, I need consistently high frame rates — something my current build struggles with.

Current System

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X (6x 3.7 GHz)

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro V2

  • Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series iCUE H150i RGB Pro XT (AM5-compatible)

  • GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti GAMING X TRIO (8 GB)

  • RAM: 32 GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4-3200 CL14 (Quad Kit)

  • PSU: 850 W Corsair RM850x, fully modular, 80 Plus Gold

Upgrade Goals

  • Switch to the AM5 platform

  • Stay within the AMD ecosystem

  • Target ultra-high FPS in competitive shooters like CS2 and Valorant

  • Low input latency and high responsiveness are key

  • Retain my existing RTX 3070 Ti for now

  • My AIO cooler supports AM5, so no issues there

Planned Upgrade

  • CPU (planned): AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

  • Motherboard: ??

  • RAM: ?? (DDR5, of course — but not sure about speed/timings/brands)

Budget

Roughly €1000 (for CPU, motherboard, RAM)

 What I Need Help With

  • Is the 9800X3D a good choice for my use case (CS2 / Valorant at 240+ FPS)?

  • Which AM5 motherboard (ATX, high-quality VRMs, decent features)?

  • What’s the best DDR5 kit for low latency and high FPS in esports titles?

Any suggestions or full upgrade builds would be massively appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

So, is it not worth going for the 9800X3D and better to just get the 7800X3D since they perform about the same?
How much of a difference would the GPU make if I stick with the 3070 Ti?

Above suggestions are great, and you should certainly remain within your budget:

1) 465€ for Ryzen 9800X3D

2) Teamgroup T-create Expert (2X16GB) 32GB RAM for 95€ (non-rgb)

OR

2) Teamgroup T-Force Delta (2x16GB) 32GB RAM for 97€ (rgb)

3) GIGABYTE X870 Gaming WIFI6 coming at 192€

Note there might be better motherboards, but I just had a quick look.

P.S.: I used https://geizhals.eu to find these prices, according to Google it should be a well known site in Germany.

P.S.2: Seems I was too slow writing this and someone else linked these parts :)).

The motherboard I recommended has about 8 USB 2.0-3.2 slots. It's a pretty decent number and you will not easily find more without specifically looking for that.

So i can just use the 3.2 slots also for my 2.0 cable?

USB 3.2 is completely backward compatible with USB 2.0. But when using USB 2.0 devices in a USB3.2 slot, data speeds are limited to USB 2.0 levels.

The 3070 Ti 8GB is a decent gpu for 1080P.

I also just want to add for peace of mind, this X870 motherboard is on the higher end. If you really struggle with money or are on a budget, you could easily save 30-50EUR ish by downgrading this a bit. (For example a B650 variant)

Edit, I did find some B650 motherboards with a lot of USB ports. So never mind my previous statement.
