Hdmi or Dvi?

I associate hdmi with tv's and so I automatically think input lag and low refresh rate, whilst DVI is used with PC's "MASTER RACE" and such, but is there really a noticable difference between the two digital interfaces as I plan to buy an Asus VE247H. It does have both inputs but I need to hook it up to a Freesat box. 

 

Apart from sound (which doesn't matter, (I've got speakers for the PC) is there a difference between the two, and which one do you guys use?

I really don't give two shits what cable it is using unless there a downside using one. (Like on 4k panels HDMI runs at 30hz etc.) Just plug one in and roll. It should work just fine.

DisplayPort is the best option for PC connectivity, but unfortunately most monitors don't support it. Out of the two you mentioned, I don't know which would be best.

It doesn't matter.

 

If it can run above 60Hz or above 1080p, then DVI matters. Otherwise use whichever is convenient or if you need the locking system of DVI.

HDMI and DVI are basically exactly the same signal

As was said in the post above mine the video signal is basically the same between them, so unless you also need to use whatever built in speakers a monitor may have, go with DVI simply because of its locking capability.

I've actually had issues with HDMI with my brothers TV with his x2 7970's. There was this huge input lag which made driving in GRID 2 impossible and had tearing issues

That was due to the fact that it was a TV and had nothing to do with the fact that you connected to that TV via HDMI.

VGA worked fine and did not have any significant delay, maybe it is an AMD issue.

DVI will ensure a "always work" experience with the best image quality, properly displayed. Same for DisplayPort

HDMI doesn't. It will work, but it MAY not be a plug in and it worked perfectly. You may need to play with settings to get it right, like under scan or over scan settings on the graphic card control panel, or create custom resolution, and such.

But if HDMI works 'out of the box', or whatever you adjust the settings to make it work, once it works, it usually always works, and the image quality is identical to dual-link DVI for most if not, all people here on this forum.
