So I am working with a machinist motherboard with a 2011-3 cpu slot on it and I was trying to install a faster cpu in it.   The 2 processors I have are an E5 2640v3 and an e5-2699v3.   I am using these in a MACHINIST X99 LGA 2011-V3 Motherboard, Micro ATX Motherboard.   According to the Intel site the 2699 shows the following:

Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2699 v3

and the 2640 shows the following

Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2640 v3

Both processors show they should fit the same slot but the processors are not the same size.   The 2699 will not fit.   Am I missing something?

Both CPUs are E5 v3 and use the same FCLGA2011 socket, which the motherboard claims to support, so I don't see why it shouldn't fit. I'd blame the motherboard, never heard of that brand before either.
