XMP doesnt work

Go to solution Solved by TetraSky,

Did you try manually entering the latency data instead of simply choosing the XMP profile ? Sometimes, this works.

It could also be that your memory controller is getting old/tired and you need to pump slightly more volts into it. This is what I personally had to do.

Like, your RAM is set to run at 1.25V. Give it 1.255V. Or 1.26V (don't go too high up on this...)

It could also be due to degradation, as Intel 13th and 14th suffer from this, especially the higher end chips like yours. Not much you can do other than loosening the timings and increasing the voltage a bit.

Hi, i have spent countless hours scouring the internet for a solution but here is my situation. I have kingston fury KF552C36-16 ddr5 16x2 ram that should run at 5200mhz but its stuck at jedec since when i enable xmp it doesnt even post the dram and cpu debug lights just keep switching my motherboard is the gigabyte z790 gaming x rev 1.0 the ram sticks are inserted in A2 and B2 as stated in the manual but it doesnt work. My cpu is the intel i7-13700k.

Welcome to the forums!
Have you reseated the RAM and CPU?
You could try loosening the timings a bit.
It could be that the CPU or mobo got degraded before you were able to get the microcode updates installed

AFAIK the 13th Gen i7 wasn't affected by the degradation, just the 13th Gen i9. The rest of the processors affected were 14th Generation.

Intel extended warranty for it, so I am assuming it is affected

It's probably less so affected compared to the power hungry chips in the i9 segment though.

One bios update later and it seems to run will have to test games again to ensure stability. I was quite scared to update it since I have the fear of electricity going out in a bios update once it was quite a close call it went out right after the bios update.

Maybe you can manually overclock RAM speeds, without XMP?

My current ram voltage running at nothing changed or modified is 1.1v so the xmp is pumping more voltage Into it.

Without XMP, 1.1 is normal.

Manually adjusting the timing and RAM clock, you would need to manually set the voltage as well.

Hence why I recommended giving it a bit more voltage than what XMP asks for since every memory controllers are different.

That said, if updating the BIOS worked, that's good.
