get a match set of 2 *8 gig to get to 16 gig (match the stick you have if you can but its never easy)

And add a 512 gig ssd and clone the os to that. keep ya exisiting hd as a data drive.

you will see a big speed improvement.

Clever buggers will be along later to help until then ya stuck with me 🙂

If you have to plans to do any intensive tasks or gaming with any of the newer titles, you should be fine.

As @Apemanonline said, doubling up the RAM, with a 16GB (8GB X2) kit, and a SSD should give you a snappier performing system.

Even a SATA III SSD will be significantly faster than a spinning HDD. It will improve your boot and load times.

It's not worth upgrading the system with high-cost components, though (e.g. CPU, Video Card).

In that case, you are better to build/purchase a brand-new system.

The i7-2600 and GTX 555 were released in 2011, nearly 15 years ago.

Check minimum hardware requirements for your software chances are you just need to throw in some cheap sub 50$ rx 570/580 and maybe double up the ram to get it running

[ Moved to New Builds and Planning ]

Unfortunately, there really isn't anything to upgrade on that Alienware that's going to make an appreciable difference. You're better off building something new from scratch.

What's your budget?

I sold my soul for ProSupport.
