Hey folks. I've been trying to look for some updated info on what would be the most optimal cooler for a 9950X3D, but I find the info quite contradictory, claiming an AIO ain't needed, yet some people claim issues keeping the temps down.

I was thinking on getting a Silent Loop 3, or any similar 420mm one, although for my case it would be better to go with a 360mm maybe.

Any thoughts on this?

A 9950X3D can reach close to 200W with a bit of OC, so it needs either a beefy aircooler (dual tower) or a 240+ AIO

The bigger the cooler the quieter and cooler the rig will be, but an AIO isn't "needed" indeed

Also define the workload. Is it just gaming where at worst half the cores are used at varying utilisations or all core rendering at 100% for 2 hours and you're having issues trying to keep it cool?

You can get a higher end air cooler though I'd get 420 AIO like Arctic one. Not overspend way over, waste.

Welcome to the forums!
Venom has the differentiating question: If you're just gaming etc. on it, a good 2 tower air cooler should keep it nice and comfy. But if you're gonna regularly slam it with long duration all core loads, you probably want some AIO

Thanks guys.

I will be using it for 3D work, rendering, some gen AI stuff + gaming.

So pretty intense use.

I will try to get a 360 or 420 aio.

I have seen some comparisons that claim some high end air coolers (like dark rock 5, noctua 15, or even the cheap thermalright beasts) do a good job, and if I was 100% sure they would work I would probably go with air.
