OC'ing RAM

Go to solution Solved by SpyRosL,

Higher frequency ram on igpu will definitely help. As far for the OC, you can try from 1866mhz to 2000mhz or 2133mhz and chances are you will have no problem.

I had a heat spreader-less ram 1600mhz and i was able to hit 2133mhz without touching any voltage. But since i overclocked the cpu,the maximum i was able to get was 1866mhz and totally stable.

Is it worth it, and will it reduce the lifetime of the RAM component if I do this?

Also, I'm unsure of what frequencies I can OC to for this 1866MHz RAM (it says it's frequency is as low as 1333MHz and then highest stated frequency is 1866MHz - will it go any higher?)

Also, which is better CL9 RAM @ 1600MHz or CL10 RAM @ 1866MHz for gaming on integrated and dedicated graphics? Providing the memory capacity is the same and at the same price.

I've read somewhere that 1600MHz RAM is not OC'able (maybe due to motherboard limitations?)

EDIT: Added link to the RAM I'm talking about.

I'll be using integrated graphics for a few months the moving on to a GPU, it sounds like recent games are taking advantage of higher frequency RAM so maybe a good move for the future?

My main concern is the CL9 vs CL10 argument, I have no idea what it means and how it affects gaming performance.

You want to play recent games with integrated graphics? Good luck with that.

Nope, not any recent games. It's possible to play some games on 30-50fps with intel HD 4600 on low settings anyways though - and since I'm stepping from PS3 to PC, it'll still be an improvement. My main reason to move is to replace my ancient laptop, and I thought I may as well lean towards upgrading it to a gaming PC in the future - rather than the PS4 because it's pretty expensive paying for extra controllers, highly priced games etc. Any games I do intend to game with on the integrated graphics (for a few months!) are not demanding at all.

Going from ps3 to integrated graphics is an improvment? Is the HD 4600 not that bad as I imagine? I have an HD 2000..(lags on mw3 lowest settings) and going to  a R9 270 August (my birthday!)

Well I think BF3 on ps3 runs at most 30fps at 720p. On PC with at least intel Hd4600 you can run at them same settings (ps3 runs on lowest settings) and achieve above 35fps (probably more as this was data on a video with hd4000 plus video recording).

And I hope you enjoy that GPU! It runs a lot of games on high settings I've been told.

Oh and intels iGPU potential has been increasing exponentially in performance each successive year for over 5 years!

Yeah they did a good job upgrading integrated graphics. Intel HD 2000 - bf3 low - 15 fps, HD 4600 35 fps. lol. Even cs 1.6 lags when a lot of players.
