I was wondering if there was an idea for the LTT forum to have browser games kinda like CoolMathGames.com except it revolves around PC building simulators, Linux pop quizes (like in Jeopardy), and something like Papa's Freezeria except it's you in a PC repair shop.

The thought of the LTT forum having its own on-site browser games and people's high scores are tied to their accounts would be pretty cool. What do you think? Would be plausible to see if @LinusTech can consider it?

I feel like LTT doesn't care about the forums at all. When was the last time we got any feature updates lol

This is incorrect. The feature updates etc come from Invision, the forum software developer, not LTT/LMG. They pay for the forum software and hosting. If they didn't care, they wouldn't keep it going after 11 years now.

If there are features you would like to see added, you can request them here: https://linustechtips.com/forum/81-forum-suggestions/

Edit: speaking of forum suggestions, moved this thread from LTT merch to forum suggestions.

All of that requires coding hours or content creation hours. Not really expecting that from LMG. They can and could promote fan projects. Like this

news flash, LMG didnt write the software the forum runs, nor do they really have any control at all over what features get added or removed.

forums are a very static formula by design, the people that actually maintain the software that is behind the forum will do things like modernize (i'm pretty sure i joined before wyswyg was implemented) and some side-features have come and gone, but the idea that caking some sort of gaming platform on top of that is somehow worth the cost for programmers to work on, or even be of any benefit for the platform at all is ridiculous.

this forum costs A LOT of money to host, and unlike a lot of similar places remains fairly minimally monetized (one ad banner on the side, never inline with main content), so it is kind of per default a loss leader for LMG. the very fact the forum exists and is *allowed* to be a mostly self-governed entity is already a pretty big point.

all of the game ideas mentioned would have to be developed as well, and the only options there are

"do it for free and just eat the cost for no good will gained because it's already a proven fact the community grants LMG no good will at all",

"lightly monetise it just like the forum, dont even break even on hosting costs, and get flac for monetizing it",

"monetise it enough to become profitable, and get called out for supposedly being a greedy corporate entity hounding their community for profit"

or... hear me out here..

give a community a place to be a community, and highlight community created projects worthy of praise where applicable.
