So recently I've been thinking about running a home server for game and hosting audiobooks, but Im unsure of what specs I should be looking at.

I want something somewhat cheap, but also give a good punch for hosting games like Minecraft, vintage story, valheim, etc (mainly survival games that require some chunk loading) with anywhere between 2-15 people at a time (Depends on if our whole friend group is playing)

Im thinking something around the price of 200-300 USD.

My main pc is what I've been hosting them on and while I've been fine with it, I do notice some stutters every so often when playing at the same time. I also play at 1440p.

My pc specs:

Ryzen 7 7800x3D

RX 6800XT

32gb of ram.

if minecraft is on the list, high single core performance is the name of the game.

the 'meta' to do home server cheap is to buy some recently decomissioned office critter, and stick 32GB ram and a new SSD in there.

Yup office pc to the rescue here.

If lucky even core i 12th gen or ryzen 3000/5000 office rigs are available.

New for 350 you could opt for one of those ryzen mini pcs too.
