Hey guys. I've been dealing with this issue since I got my new PC. During most games, the experience will be fairly smooth until it looks like this:

Specs:

  • CPU - 9800X3D
  • GPU - 4070 Super
  • Mobo - X870 Aorus Elite
  • Ram - 32GB
  • SSD - Samsung 860 Evo 4TB & WD_Black SN850X 2 TB NVME
  • PSU - Corsair 1000W

Here are the things I've tried:

  • Disabled overlays
  • Disabled startup apps
  • Latest chipset drivers
  • Latest BIOS update
  • Latest GPU driver + rolled back various times
  • Enabling/disabling EXPO
  • Enabling/disabling HAGS
  • Enabling Global C-state (this worked for Marvel Rivals stutters)
  • Swapped out GPU, CPU, RAM, Mobo, PSU so the only thing I've carried over is the SATA SSD (the game is installed on the NVME) and it didn't make a difference.

With my previous build, I never dealt with this issue. I'd really appreciate if someone could give me some insight because I'm at a loss.

It's 1440p. I've also tried running it at lower FPS (75-80), but the spikes were still there.

Well, I've got those "spikes" when AMD Overlay is opened/turned on.
It will sound stupid, but are you running your games in Full Screen or Windowed?
Try Full Screen.
Check your refresh rate in game and your display/monitor.

I'm just guessing here...

I heard that coffee's good for my sex life.

It isn't.

It kept me awake through the whole damn thing!

I actually had to participate.

I don't have AMD overlay.

I run most titles at fullscreen or borderless.

Refresh is at 165 in-game and in the display settings.

But you're running MSI Afterburner as I can see in that video.
I can agree that you can check "MSI Overlay" here and there......but you don't have the actual need to run it every second of gaming.

Try to decrease refresh to 144Hz.
Which game is that?

On video, it looks like gpu is having some problems, something it can't handle...maybe.

I don't run it every second. I ran it so people could visibly see the temps/usage and hitching.

This is Horizon: Forbidden West.

Everything looks great, except that obvious "stutter"......or lag....or whatever it's called.
Poor optimization for a certain CPU/GPU?

Only that remains as a solution.
