Quick Start Guide - SRBase

SRBase will be the project for the Sprint event in the 2025 BOINC Pentathlon. The Sprint will run for 3 days of the Pent, 10 May 2025 00:00 UTC - 13 May 2025 00:00 UTC.

Now let's get setup!

Account Setup

1. First, if you have not already, download and install the BOINC manager here: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php

 2. Visit the SRBase site and create an account. Use the same email and username that you have used for other BOINC projects. The the invite code is pillepalle

7. Disable CPU and configure the settings like shown on the photo. This will run the project only on your GPU so then your CPU can be used to help the team on other projects. Remember to click "Update preferences" at the bottom!

3. After agreeing to the projects terms of use, enter in your account info. (Ignore the incorrect project seen on the screenshot)

4. After connecting to the project server and downloading the necessary files, the project should now appear in the projects tab and begin downloading WUs. If you are bunkering, the WU deadline is always in 3 days + a grace period of 6 hours.

Isn't there an invite code someplace needed to do this?  I'll try it in a bit to know for sure.

yes the invite code is pillepalle

@TheLANguy users might need to sign up at SRBase before linking to BOINC Manager to input the invite code.

Nope! The invite code is not required if you use the manager. SRBase recommendeds this on their signup page.

So when I tried earlier it wouldn't let me make an account there, the BOINC Manager said it was "closed to new accounts" unless you have an account already.

There's no "new" option on the manager with this project (At least, there wasn't for me).  I had to go to their site and sign up first, using the invite code, then sign in as an existing user.

Anyone know if it's worth trying to run multiple tasks on the same GPU for SRBase?  I think I recall that for one of the GPU projects in the last Pent it made sense to run multiple tasks on the same GPU if higher end (4090).  Task manager is showing 99% utilization so thinking maybe shared GPU won't make sense here.

So based on the temps I'm seeing running one WU definitely not worth trying to run multiple concurrently.  FAH rarely exceeds 65C but SRBase has my 4090 pegged to 82C.

in forums they mention dont run gpu project if not water cooled.

like some  prime grid gpu wu.... it will fully use a gpu doing double compute

Over at the Tasks tab it seems to be at idle, and my GPU is at a cozy 19C. Any idea why it doesn't seem to be working? Or am I just being impatient?
