  1. 1. Of these 2 video upscaling apps, which one would you choose and why?

    • Topaz Labs - https://www.topazlabs.com/topaz-video-ai
      2
    • AVC Labs - https://www.avclabs.com/video-enhancer-ai.html

I'm interested in getting an upscaling app for video. Which one would you recommend?

Topaz requires a 300$ license for upscaling video without their watermark. I tried the free version that includes unlimited video lengths and the watermark is not at all subtle, it's VERY noticeable, it's non-transparent, white and LARGE.
AVC labs has a free trial, though they limit exports to 30 seconds and they also have a watermark. Their pricing is a subscription for 40$/month. I'd say if you plan on just converting a bunch of content all at once, subscribe to AVC labs, upscale all videos you wanna upscale at once, then cancel again. If you want to have a solution that you can keep for very long, buy the license to Topaz. Topaz runs on your GPU but you can buy tokens to run it on their servers instead. I tried Topaz on my RTX 4070Ti and converting a 1080p24 movie to 1080p60 ran at around 15 FPS, so the 2h movie took roughly 8h. I don't know about AVC labs tough

I'm not looking for a free solution. I don't mind paying for software if it does a good job.

I take it from asking the question using whatever functionality built into the video editing software isn't good enough? Haven't tried going beyond that.

Simply increasing the size of a video, like an image, will make it look worse unless you use AI to increase the resolution.

I'd go with Topaz Labs because it offers excellent video quality with cutting-edge AI tools and gives you that pro look—perfect if you value clear, cinematic images and have the right gear. But if you're looking to save some cash or need a fast and easy way to upscale, AVC Labs is a solid backup.
