Could be your headphones. Try another pair? Disregard that. I'm multi-tasking - doing homework and browsing the forum. Didn't realize what you actually said.  :)

Or is the HD Audio front connector properly seated on the motherboard? You should use the back, directly into the IO of the motherboard if possible and see if that helps.

Few things:

1. Try unplugging the front panel audio and just use either the speakers or headphones from the rear port, see if it still buzzes.

2. Do you have a mic that can be muted on the headphones? Try muting it if it's not already.

3. Try changing ingame settings related to audio and mics.

4. Try both the headphones and speakers on different devices to see if you get the noise anywhere else.

I had that same issue twice now, once my speakers were dying and the other was from having my cell phone on and near them, i now it sounds stupid but im almost 100% cretin that that's what was causing my problem.

I run my own indie game company called Color Dragon Studios where we are currently making a 2d platformer game called Small Earth.

If it was a mic issue it would happen all the time but its as soon as I start a game.

Use headphones on tablet and no issue.
No buzz when playing music.
The front is plugged in to the HD audio IO but as i said the speakers are plugged in to the back IO.

Okay I worked it out, I had the power cable for the graphics card crossing over all other cables. I moved it out the way and that fixed the problem. I guess there was low interference it was picking up.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Thats quite common for integrated audio. Its been for long time and most times still is. That was the main reason for me to get soundcard in first place.

More than likely an interference issue. Plugging it in the back should fix it as the front panel audio cable won't be going passed all your components. If your getting interference plugging it in the back then I'd say the cable on your headphones is picking up signals from outside your case. Do you have lots of radios/phones etc? Try moving them away. Otherwise could be a faulty back audio connector.

Thinking of how the front panel audio cable goes, it is goign across the whole PC, so is bound to pick up interference. Best bet would be to plug in at the back, so that you get as little interference as possible. :)
