Please tell me if this is a lost cause

It can be pretty much anything and thats kind of the issue. Do you want to?

If this is something you want to tinker, i still could think of better cheap thrills in Canada for 60CAD, but could be worth it if you already have tools at hand. If this is something you want for a rig upgrade you might as well forget it.

I need a GPU for my second PC and I found a 5700 XT, its $60 CAD which is 1/2-1/3 of normal used price. It can game but the only issue with it is that it "can't download drivers" (unable to install drivers error code 43) I'm wondering if something like that could be fixed with a bios flash or something similar. Please tell me if this is a lost cause or a great deal. If you guys need any more info please just ask. Thanks!

Interesting, seems to have a different BIOS version to THICC ones.

https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/?architecture=AMD&manufacturer=XFX&model=RX+5700+XT&version=&interface=&memType=&memSize=&since=

Also there doesn't seem to be any THICC III Ultra, only THICC III or THICC II Ultra. But xxx.068.xxx BIOS version that it has pops up only for another model, RX-57XT83LD8, which looks different to yours.

Try and write 017.001.000.049.000000 BIOS version from a THICC III see what happens. THICC II are only two fans so yours has to be THICC III.

BIOS checksums are different for the two THICC III versions, try first see if it works, try second see if that solves the issue. Second one seems to have +50MHz higher boost clocks.

Could be previous owner tried flashing a "newer" BIOS since 068 higher than 049 so must be better. But used one from a different card basically, might explain the issues.

edit: Also beware, reflashing might totally brick it and make it completely unusable. You're clearly doing this at your own risk. But if you want to...that's what I'd do.

Link to first BIOS file: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/215071/xfx-rx5700xt-8192-191010

Link to second BIOS file: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/215042/xfx-rx5700xt-8192-191015

The second one with higher clock seems to have higher TDP limit, so should get bit more performance with it.

If it works.

Ignore the photo, it's from a RAW II version, but data says THICC III

2nd edit:

Looking at Techpowerup review:

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/xfx-radeon-rx-5700-xt-thicc-iii-ultra/3.html

The board has two BIOSes, normal/performance, with switch on it. Turn the board off, move the switch to the other position, power it again, should switch BIOS, maybe the other works.

If not, reflash both with upper linked files, move switch to normal, flash lower clock version, move switch to performance, flash the higher clock BIOS. The two files are from the same card on different switch positions. Don't forget to turn off the computer when moving switch positions.

3rd edit:

I can find no online mention to a THICC III non-Ultra so BIOS files should most likely be from III Ultra like yours.
