I am building a high-speed server what hba or raid cards and file system should I use. The hardware is 4* Intel Xeon 8480, 12* KCMYDRUG3T84, 32* 32gb DDR5 4800 MT ecc

is the machine going to be doing something other than storage becuase this would be extremely wasteful if it isn't

ok do you care about noise or power consumption or maintenance because you're tasking this system with entry level tasks that basically an IOT device could do

running a file system than can handle 120gbs read and 60gbs write is not that easy

and you have a home network that speed with enough users to saturate that speed?

What nics are you using?

 

How many of those disks are you using?

 

Why 4 cpus? Your adding a lot of potiental for latency compared to a single CPU between all those CPUs and ram.

 

What OS? What protocol?

i am running Mellanox MCX653106A-EFAT 

12 disks 

and no os selected but raid 5 with 2 parody disks 

and i can go down to 2 cpus minimum if that would be better

Generally a raid5 means one parity disk, do you mean a raid50 or 6?

 

Generally raid5 or any parity raid doesn't have the best performance, look at a mirror solution for better performance.

What server are you using? Some need the extra CPUs for running devices on. Look at the block diagram of how its wired internally

 

What protocol do you need? What are your clients?
